Thailand, known as ‘The land of smiles’ is famous for its warm and welcoming culture. Making this country one of the most popular in the world to travel to. Having a culture rich in history, Buddhism, diverse ethnic influences and traditions, and breathtaking natural beauty make Thailand an intriguing destination for exploration and adventure.
Chiang Mai, located in the North of Thailand, is an area of outstanding natural beauty ancient Lana culture and diverse ethnic minority tribal villages hidden away in the stunning mountain ranges.
The City is world renowned for its quality in Thai massage or ‘Yoga Massage’ with schools and independent massage spas in abundance. Another highlight is the array of clean, organic food stalls, restaurants and markets serving up traditional Thai cuisine and fusion menus. So, after a hard day of learning and yoga practice you can kick back with a massage and a guilt free delicious meal.
Chiangmai differs from other busy Thai city’s as it has kept its roots and combines tradition with modernity. The city is a cosmopolitan hub with modern malls and trendy Thai coffee bars and hangouts, located right in the center of this hub is the ‘Old City’ surrounded by ancient Lana city walls and moat. It is surprisingly still very residential here and you can find quiet winding backstreets and temples away from the tourist crowds. In this center, you will also find a variety of markets from traditional food markets to arty handicrafts and antiques, the most famous being the huge Sunday market at Thapae Gate famous for its arts, Lana crafts and delicious delicacies.
Just beyond the city edge you will find; gorgeous green paddy fields, lush rain forest and majestic mountain ranges. Just 20 minutes by bike or bus you will discover challenging jungle treks, clear blue waterfalls, steamy hot springs and quiet hill tribe villages. You can leave the tourist trail and head to a nearby village or retreat where you will hear only birds sing and see only the stars at night.
The yoga training itself will take place in an Ayuvedic Ashram just outside the city at the foothills of the mountains and national park. Accommodation is inside the ashram. All the rooms have an on-suite bathroom with hot shower, beautiful traditional Thai décor and big double bed. with a choice of standard single occupancy, the more lavish deluxe option which includes a suite or the slightly cheaper shared option. Food is vegetarian, prepared freshly in the Vedic manner and served Monday to Friday.
The Ashram building is created in traditional Thai manner with open air gardens inside its wall and beautiful architecture. There is even an infinity pool to relax by in your free time. The yoga hall is on site with beautiful views of the gardens and there is even the option for some outside classes in the grounds. The location is ideal being surrounded by nature, but within easy reach of all amenities. Here you will find the balance between peace, relaxation and the hard work and concentration you will need for your teacher training.
