Our teaching system is based on an unbroken lineage that passes on yoga in its pure form while empowering our students to live the yoga lifestyle and its principles.

Shanti Yoga Ashram provides guests with an ashram environment in a home-stay setting, surrounded by the splendor of nature. Yogi Prakash and his family welcome guests into their kitchen and their living space. This affords a cozy environment conducive to spiritual practice where those who stay at the ashram can get a taste of authentic yogic lifestyle along with traditional Nepalese culture.

The ashram provides a few private rooms and shared dorm room facilities, availability is based on current occupancy. There is warm running water for bathing powered by solar and unlimited fresh drinking water.

Learn the depths of classical Tantra yoga in a traditional ashram setting yoga is much more than asana - it is a lifestyle, and Shanti Yoga Ashram wants to prepare students who can live yoga, not just do yoga. They are confident that the experience will not only prepare you to teach yoga, but give you all the tools you need to maintain a harmonious balance in your daily life.

At Shanti Yoga Ashram, you will learn directly from the guru himself along with their experienced teachers. They have a family atmosphere where your learning experience is very personal and hands-on. Your teachers are approachable and open to questions. The surroundings are clean and green, an ideal environment for yoga practice and spiritual cultivation.

Shanti Yoga Ashram is a certified by Yoga Alliance. During this training course, you will learn in depth multiple aspects of yoga, both practical and philosophical. Through Hatha yoga, you will learn shatkarma techniques - how to cleanse the body to open the energy channels (nadis), followed by asana, pranayama, mudra, and bhanda so that the prana can flow. This will lead you to Ashtanga yoga to control the mind through meditation. By the practice of Mantra yoga, you will learn how to activate the dormant energy.

Then Kundalini yoga will take you to the next level, how to unlock this vital energy, and use it for awakening the chakras and higher levels of consciousness. You will be empowered to share this knowledge and gain the confidence to give the experience of yoga to others through these teachings. You will be ready to teach students of different levels for therapeutic purposes or to awaken their spiritual consciousness.

Guru Yogi Prakash
Guru Yogi Prakash is the founder and chairman of Shanti Yoga Ashram, has been teaching yoga for more than 20 years both at home and abroad. He has a great capacity to transmit the spiritual essence of Tantra yoga to his students with full joy and love. His personal attention and care for every student make everyone feel at home.
He has a magnanimous and generous nature sharing his wisdom with much devotion. His deep love of yoga is reflected in his classes. The way he totally imbibes yoga allows him to transport his students to a complete state of tranquility and bliss. A class with him is truly a transformative experience that has the power to take your yoga practice to new depths.

Yogini Rama
Yogini Rama is the co-founder of Shanti Yoga Ashram and has been teaching yoga for 14 years. Yogini Rama studied at Bihar School of Yoga in India and in Nepal under the guidance of Swami Shivalingam and Guru Yogi Prakash. Her teaching style is meditative and precise, encouraging students to fully blossom in their practice.

She is also a certified naturopathic doctor and has taught in hospitals and schools in the Kathmandu region. The ashram would not be where it is today without her dedicated energy over the years.

Yogini Gopika
Yogini Gopika has more than 15 years of yoga experience that she brings to her class to offer her students a dynamic flow that is both energizing and rejuvenating. She was living and working in New York city with the desire to do something more meaningful. The first time she took a yoga class, she experienced a profound sense of peace like she never felt before; her life was changed forever.

She began her teacher training with Integral Yoga Institute and by the end of it not only she, but her entire life was transformed. She left her job to work at Integral Yoga and to teach at various studios throughout the city. Her practice deepened to include a daily Ashtanga and Vinyasa practice. Shortly thereafter, she journeyed to India where she has spent the better part of the last 10 years.

Her classes are a blend of the practices that have influenced her life: Astanga, Vinyasa, Hatha, and Tantra. She is also a certified Ayurvedic practitioner and gives lectures and consultations at the ashram.

Amrit Thokar
Amrit Thokar has been a disciple of Guruji and an ahsram member for many years. He is a sought after massage and yoga therapist and has been practicing both for over ten years. He is highly skilled; able to release pain and accumulated tension in the body through physical adjustments and massage techniques. He has a magic touch and a sweet temperament that makes his patients feel relaxed. Amrit is the owner of Nectar Spa in Thamil, Kathmandu; which has just expanded to include a second branch. His expertise is part of our cleansing retreats in which he performs and guides healing ayurvedic treatments.

Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas with a picturesque view, less than one hour from Kathmandu, Shanti Yoga Ashram is the perfect sanctuary to go deeply into the essence of yoga.

Shanti Yoga Ashram provides its guests with traditional Nepalese food. This includes Nepal’s famous dal bhat (rice and legumes), fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade yogurt, pickle dish, and traditional roti (handmade flat bread).

Much of the produce used for meals comes from the family’s organic garden. Some items you can find in the field are cauliflower, cabbage, a variety of greens, persimmons, oranges, plums, kiwis, spices and herbs, chilies, radish, and much more!
The kitchen is a cozy, family-sized room with a welcoming atmosphere reflective of the generosity of the family who runs the ashram. The diet is strictly vegetarian.

The ashram has 24-hour WiFi connection.

Electricity information
Electrical outages are part of life in Nepal, however it is easy to adapt since the ashram has solar energy for heating water and gas or fire for cooking. Lights are battery powdered, not dependent on the coming and going of electricity.

What to bring ?
Please bring a sweater for the weather in October and November. It is a good idea to bring your own light weight towel and slippers for indoors. You might like to bring your own pillow too.

How to get there ?
Arrival by airplane
Please book your flights to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM). From the airport, take a taxi and ask the driver to take you to Machchhegaun, just past Kirtipur. When you get to Kirtipur, you can ask the driver to call Shanti Yoga Ashram for further directions.
