Yin Yoga is a unique approach to yoga practice that works on releasing fascia tensions in the body. Fascia is thin sheet of membrane that wraps around each layer of our tissues from the skin to the bones. It is found everywhere in the body from the skull of the head down to the toes. It is also the basic fabric of our body. Studies have shown that fascia can contract which causes tightness, tension and pain to different body parts. This is especially true in our lower back, neck and shoulder. Healthy fascia is important to both its structure, integrity as well as energy flow. Yin Yoga focuses on the pelvis. By release tension and tightness around the hips and lower back, all other body parts will start to open.
