Himalaya Yoga Valleys 300hr program is regarded within the yoga field to be one of the most innovative and transformation advanced training courses existing for teachers looking to take their personal practice, teaching skills and specialist knowledge to the next level.
Himalaya Yoga Valley is dedicated to honouring and sharing Ashtanga and Hatha yoga practice as passed on by the great masters before them through our schools lineage. Lalit Kumar is the Founding Director and senior teacher of Himalaya Yoga Valley Centre. He has over 15 years experience teaching nationally and internationally. He is a prominent and established yoga teacher in the world yoga community with a strong following within the yoga teaching community. Lalit’s popular teaching style blends traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga with Iyengar inspired alignment techniques. He places a strong focus on to physical adjustments to improve alignment through a precise, yet dynamic practice. Lalit is passionate about training teachers and sharing his teachings with keen yogis although his style is demanding, he is known for his ability to work with students of all levels and bring out the best in the individual. He believes through self discipline and self study, students of yoga can flourish both personally and in the world.

The level 2 course is unique to Himalaya Yoga Valley in its concept, wherein teachers have the opportunity to undertake an optional Elective Unit which enables them to develop a body of knowledge and portfolio around a specialized area of yoga they are interested in pursuing within a supportive and expert environment. Teachers delve into their chosen area and build up a body of knowledge, becoming fully informed and practically, taking the knowledge into the business development realm and right down to the yoga mat when delivering the final practicums related to the area of specialization.
Examples have been; Yoga for Depression, Yoga for the 12 Steps, Yoga for the Dosha, Yoga for Chronic Pain and Yoga for Teens.

In parallel, a strong emphasis is placed on learning advanced teaching techniques and at the same time developing personal practice. The 300h training is an all-encompassing program. Teachers come to the program as teachers, and the expectation is that they will bring with them their real life teaching experience to enrich their own progress as well as their training peer. On completion of the Level 2 Teacher Training, a 500h certificate is awarded. The training is recognized by Yoga Alliance UK and Yoga Alliance USA.

Syllabus includes advanced level study in the following areas;

Meditation, Chanting & Pranayama:
On a daily basis, Teacher Trainees can expect to participate and teach traditional meditation, including seated positions accessible for everyone regardless of any physical limitations.
Chanting mantras is a central aspect of traditional yoga, teacher trainings will be actively chanting mantras daily, teachers will experience and be able to pass this onto their students, along with the physical and physiological benefits of mantra chanting practice. Prana is our Life Force and our pranayama practice controls our breath to harvest the physical, emotional and mental. On the training, teachers will learn to teach advanced pranayama techniques to build upon those basic already in hand.

Asana: Self Practice, Teaching Practice, Alignment technique, Physical adjustments
Throughout the duration of the training, teachers will practice the full Ashtanga Primary Series in both led classes and Mysore style classes. There is a two-tiered approach to asana, teachers are guided in led classes through the Ashtanga Primary series by Yogacharya Lalit as per his Lineage. The objective of this first tier is to significantly deepen their personal practice and improve their alignment with an emphasis on practice progression relative to their own starting point. The second tier is to deconstruct, analyze and understand each asana on a pranic, physical, therapeutic and psycho-emotional level with the aim of teachers bringing this understanding to their own teaching.
-Daily practice of applying principles of alignment
-Daily practice of physical adjustments using traditional Mysore adjustment techniques

The practicum level 2 teaching series consists of series derived from the Primary Series which will be practiced regularly as a platform for training teaching practicums. Through this series teachers will:
-Increase awareness of adjusting postures
-Teachers will gain an understanding of how to use props for postures within this series
-Teachers will learn building blocks on how to systematically improve postures within this series

Ayurveda
With the expert guidance of Dr. Rohit, Borkar, renowned Goan Ayurveda physician, teachers will learn the Ayurvedic approach to a living a balanced lifestyle relative to their future students and also themselves as teachers. During this series of lectures teachers with gain an understanding about Ayurveda that is relative to age, health, lifestyle and seasonal requirement. Teachers will learn how, based on Ayurvedic dosha types, to develop a lifestyle program for vata, pitta and kapha types.

Anatomy and Physiology: anatomical and pranic body
Through this series of informative, interactive and engaging anatomy classes, teachers will go on an anatomical journey related specifically to yoga, movement, body mechanics and its effects and health benefits. This module is aimed at making the study of anatomy relevant to yoga teachers for application to a wide variety circumstances such as of the unique nature of student body types, presenting injuries, injury prevention, muscular and joint relief, postural improvement and identifying and being able to prescribe various asana to improve strength and flexibility.
The Pranic Body is made up of layers, spheres and sheathes of subtle and gross energy fields in which we all live at any given time. During this lecture, teachers gain insight to the Koshas , Vayus, Nadis and Chakras, culminating in the totality of the pranic body being presented as a whole energetic mass. This Unit is a continuation of the 200 Hour lectures on the Chakras and nadis at a deeper level. Understanding the functions of the chakras is an integral part of a yoga teachers’knowledge.

Philosophy
During the level 2 training, teachers will compare Pantajalis 8 limbs to other significant Yogic texts; Upanishads, Bhagavad Gita and Hatha Yoga Pradipika. Teachers will be comparing with other philosophical observations of the Mind (Manas-Buddhi-Chitta-Ahamkara vs. Patanjali’s Mind, kleshas) and how in more recent times more has been written about the similarities between Vedanta and Yoga – especially in some Swami Rama texts. Teachers will continue to explore the theme of liberation within Bhagavad Gita. The history and relevance of Bhagavad Gita and comparison to Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras and looking at recurring themes or significant differences between these two significant philosophical texts.

Teaching Methodology: Sequencing to Optimise Health, Sequencing for Specialised Groups, Ethics, Classroom Management, Teaching Communication Skills
Ethics & Classroom Management
This Ethics Unit was developed specifically to assist yoga teachers for teaching ethically in the real world where ethical dilemmas and situations can occur. Being aware of the importance of developing awareness, clarity of actions and solution-based scenarios based on the principles of yoga are pivotal. Classroom management skills and qualities best employed by experienced teachers are assertiveness, compassion, knowledge, decisiveness, communication skills, integrity and an ability to read students needs at short notice. This Unit assists teachers to build their confidence around classroom management thereby adding another element to their teaching skills.
Sequencing & Sequencing specialized groups:
These courses are structured to expand the teachers knowledge of how to construct asana classes in a safe and meaningful manner to meet the needs of students. This Unit will guide teachers to understand sequencing classes around optimizing the health of their students through structuring asana classes around Yoga for the systems. The second element within the Sequencing unit for developing appropriate class sequences for specialised groups of students is a core feature of this Unit. It is developed to guide teachers through class construction skills required to assess the needs, fears and appeals of their target group/students, in order to learn how to sequencing for specialised groups of students.
Teacher Communication Skills
A teacher’s voice is the most important teaching tool required for a successful teacher. Teaching confidence, skills, ability and knowledge are wasted if a teachers voice does not reach its potential in effectiveness. In this Unit, teachers will develop a heightened awareness about the importance of yoga teachers to possess effective verbal and non verbal communication skills in order to educate, coach, energise, motivate and develop their students.

Yoga Business:
During the training Teachers will gain a working understanding of the key concepts of Strategic Business Planning required for developing a sustainable yoga business. Further areas covered during these lectures are the Principles of Strategic Planning including Core Value, Vision and Mission Statements. Teachers gain an understanding of the key success measures to evaluate business outcomes, the importance of SWOT analysis, identification and segmentation of target markets for teachers chosen areas of specialization, in addition to marketing, branding and promotions concepts. Trainees will learn about Social and Digital media considerations necessary for reaching todays large digital markets. During the Business Units, trainees will learn about the key components required for a simple and concise Business Plan in addition to understanding the critical importance of having a Business Plan as the roadmap to achieving goals and objectives.

Optional Elective:
Area of Specialisation- Professional Development Portfolio
A unique aspect of the Himalaya Yoga Valley’s 300 hr Teacher Training is the development by trainees of their individual Portfolios which is an opportunity to delve into the chosen area of specialization and build up a body of knowledge, becoming fully informed and practically taking the knowledge into the business development realm and right down to the yoga mat when delivering the final practicums related to the area of specialisation. There are 3 practical components to the area of specialization:
1) Presentation
2) Chanting, meditation and pranayama class based on area of specialization
3) Asana class based on area of specialization
4) Business plan and development in relation to area of specialization
5) Written research article
All of this work pre-arrival and throughout the training will be consolidated and culminate into a professional development portfolio, a living document that teachers and continue to build, develop and grow long after the training is complete.

Now that you have that strong Level 1, 200 HR foundation as a yoga teacher, in the advanced training you will build on that foundation in a more creative and less linear way. The additional 300 hour training is structured with integrity to ensure you are not rushed or time burdened yet still constantly stimulated by challenging, creative and relevant learning outcomes. A strong emphasis will be placed on deepening your personal practice during the training under Yogacharya Lalits guidance. Trainees must have completed a 200 Hour Training Course from a reputable training school and provide references from their previous school. Himalaya Yoga Valley 200 Hour Graduates are automatically eligible for enrolment in this training. As per our 200 Hour training requirements trainees will be expected to have a mature outlook, positive attitude and strong sense of self discipline and self determination in relation to their personal practice.
