Submerge yourself in the yoga lifestyle, while absorbing the powerful Himalayan energy. Yogis have been practicing in the Himalayas since the beginning of time! The aim of Shanti Yoga Ashram's teaching system is to combine physical movement (asana), breath (pranayama), and awareness (meditation) to generate physical, vital, and mental health.

Shanti Yoga Ashram provides guests with an ashram environment in a home-stay setting surrounded by the splendor of nature. Yogi Prakash and his family welcome guests into their kitchen and their living space. This affords a cozy environment conducive to spiritual practice, where those who stay at the ashram can get a taste of authentic yogic lifestyle along with traditional Nepalese culture.

The ashram provides a few private rooms and shared dorm room facilities. Availability is based on current occupancy. There is warm running water for bathing, powered by solar and unlimited fresh drinking water.
Shanti Yoga Ashram Nepal Yoga Retreat Program

Develop a good foundation to build a satisfying yoga practice. You will start with the basics, learning how to breathe properly to oxygenate the body and energize the mind while synchronizing movement and breathing for a meditative experience. You will also discuss yogic philosophy, the basics that every yogi should know that can be directly applied to your life and your practice. It is vital to integrate the two so that your spiritual development can fully blossom.

Guru Yogi Prakash

Guru Yogi Prakash, the founder and chairman of Shanti Yoga Ashram, has been teaching yoga for more than 20 years both at home and abroad. He has a great capacity to transmit the spiritual essence of Tantra yoga to his students with full joy and love. His personal attention and care for every student make everyone feel at home.

He has a magnanimous and generous nature sharing his wisdom with much devotion. His deep love of yoga is reflected in his classes. The way he totally imbibes yoga allows him to transport his students to a complete state of tranquility and bliss. A class with him is truly a transformative experience that has the power to take your yoga practice to new depths.

Yogini Gopika
Yogini Gopika has more than 15 years of yoga experience that she brings to her class to offer her students a dynamic flow that is both energizing and rejuvenating. She lived and worked in New York city with the desire to do something more meaningful. The first time she took a yoga class, she experienced a profound sense of peace like she never felt before. Her life was changed forever.

She began her teacher training with Integral Yoga Institute. At the end, she with her entire life was transformed. She left her job to work at Integral Yoga and to teach at various studios throughout the city. Her practice deepened to include a daily Ashtanga and Vinyasa practice. Shortly thereafter, she journeyed to India where she has spent the better part of the last 10 years.

Her classes are a blend of the practices that have influenced her life: Astanga, Vinyasa, Hatha, and Tantra. She is also a certified Ayurvedic practitioner who gives lectures and consultations at the ashram.

Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayas with a picturesque view, less than one hour from Kathmandu, Shanti Yoga Ashram is the perfect sanctuary to go deeply into the essence of yoga. On a clear day, you can see the Himalayas in the distance. The ashram is located next to a large forest which provides ample fresh air and nice breeze.

Shanti Yoga Ashram provides its guests with traditional Nepalese food which includes Nepal’s famous dal bhat (rice and legumes), fresh fruits and vegetables, homemade yogurt, pickle dish, and traditional roti (handmade flat bread).

Much of the produce used for meals comes from the family’s organic garden. Some items you can find in the field are cauliflower, cabbage, a variety of greens, persimmons, oranges, plums, kiwis, spices and herbs, chilies, radish, and much more!

The kitchen is a cozy, family-size room with a welcoming atmosphere reflective of the generosity of the family who runs the ashram. The diet is strictly vegetarian.

Electricity information
Electrical outages are part of life in Nepal, however it is easy to adapt since the ashram has solar energy for heating water and gas or fire for cooking. Lights are battery powered, not dependent on the coming and going of electricity.

What to bring
Please bring a sweater for the weather in October and November. It is a good idea to bring your own lightweight towel and slippers for indoors. You might like to bring your own pillow too.

How to get there
Arrival by airplane
Please book your flights to arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport (KTM). From the airport, Shanti Yoga Ashram recommends you to take a taxi and ask the driver to take you to Machchhegaun, just past Kirtipur. Most drivers will know Kirtipur (it is a small city between Kathmandu and Machchhegaun). When you get to Kirtipur, you can ask the driver to call Shanti Yoga Ashram for exact directions. The taxi ride will cost approximately 1,000 NPR.
