Alignment for Every Body: Functional Anatomy
This 5-Day Immersion is part of the Luma Yoga Teacher Training program and is open to any practitioner with at least one year of regular yoga practice. We will practice daily, explore through lecture, practicum and dialogue, and read and discuss relevant texts.
Type of Event
- Teacher Training
This is a full-day immersion with morning practice starting at 7:30AM. Lectures + practicum are interspersed with breaks for leisure +meals. Evenings finish with meditation + restorative practices.
Over time and through experience, yoga teachers learn to expertly read and teach to students' unique physical needs. As practitioners, we continue to evolve our understanding of our own bodies, observing changes over time. In this course we will expand our basic knowledge of the musculoskeletal system and anatomy as they relate to movement and form.
We will explore how to construct yoga postures with an eye toward individual physical characteristics and needs. We will practice applying our new understanding of physicality to our own bodies and also learn from one other. Through this process, we will expand our understanding of modern yoga practice, and learn how to teach in a way that honors the unique physique of any student.
In this immersion you will:
-Enjoy a 2-hour morning posture and breathing practice each day
-Learn basic functional anatomy of the bones, fascia and muscles
-Study the biomechanics of the joints
-Explore the spine and nervous system and why they are so important to our health and wellbeing
-Learn when, why, and how to use props to support & enhance practice
-Rediscover Inversions and how to practice/teach them safely
