Full Description

Many yoga schools teach the outer form of yoga postures (a knee here, an elbow ), but neglect teaching the art of modifying the techniques to the needs of individuals. We emphasize that form follows function in the practice of Hatha Yoga. Rather than memorizing endless names and details, you will be encouraged to think for yourself as you refine your observational skills. We firmly believe, to paraphrase the old adage, it's better to teach a man to fish than to simply give him a fish to eat.

Julia Siporin and Jennifer Jamieson are the lead instructors. Julia came to yoga in 1973 and meditation in 1975. Yoga helped her deal with stress and teach more effectively during her 26-year career as an elementary school teacher and team leader. After retiring, Julia graduated from Sarahjoy Marsh’s 200 hr YTT and infused daily Lifeskills and Yoga philosophy into her classes. Ever the life-long learner, Julia became enamored with the strong anatomy components of Alignment Yoga. She graduated from both of Scott Anderson’s 200 hr and 500 hr Alignment Yoga Teacher Trainings. She has assisted Alignment Yoga 200 hour training, and is currently the teaching assistant for the Alignment Yoga 500 hr program.

Jennifer is a yoga educator who brings wisdom, kindness, and inquiry to the mat. She blends heartfelt yoga philosophy, and asana, with the intelligence of the biomechanics of the body. She skillfully teaches to a diversity of students, enabling each to find ease and confidence on the mat. Her ability to take her life experiences as a single mother of two brings community and connection to the yoga experience.

What Sets us Apart
Having offered advanced programs since 2003 with approval from the Yoga Alliance, Alignment Yoga is the most experienced yoga training school in Wisconsin, and is pleased to bring this program to Eugene Yoga. In addition to our quality instructors and low student-teacher ratio (10:1), we have placed emphasis in the following areas:

Deep understanding of body mechanics
We offer teachers a thorough foundation in anatomy so they can decide whether an instruction is biomechanically sound.

Modern approach
Alignment Yoga offers an innovative approach that combines the Eastern approach of yoga with Western, modern-day needs.

Pedagogical training
Our program helps teachers understand different students’ needs and how to adjust to meet them in a class setting.

Informed by medically researched modalities
Our approach has been refined by the understandings of Physical Therapy, Sensory Integration, Functional Strength Training, Pilates, Anatomy Trains, Rolfing, Craniosacral Therapy, Contemplative Neuroscience, Ayurveda, Meditation, Zero Balancing, Early Childhood Development and Educational Psychology.

Before beginning my 200-hour Alignment Yoga Teacher Training at Eugene Yoga, I believed the instruction would be exceptional because the teachers at Eugene Yoga are superior to any I’ve discovered in my 40+ years of practicing yoga. The advanced studies/teacher training program completely fulfilled my expectations and I couldn’t be happier with the abundant knowledge I acquired throughout this program. The breadth of topics covered including yoga philosophy, ethics, anatomy, body mechanics, asana, history, business, cuing, and much more were thoroughly and carefully presented and I’m amazed by the amount of material we were able to learn in 200 hours. I walked away with the books and resources I need to continue reading, learning, and growing into an experienced yoga teacher and more fully embrace yoga as a way of life. The connections I made with the teachers and other students are irreplaceable in building community and happily discovered their support did not end with graduation. I had no idea how profoundly my life would be changed before embarking on this incredible journey and feel truly proud to call myself a graduate of this outstanding program.
