Spend a great evening exploring the wonder and exhilaration of backbends!
Chances are that if the thought of or doing backbends makes you miserable than you may not have ever truly experienced them. Join Susan Elena for a workshop that will help you break through fear and understand how and why backbending is so good for the spine. Through a slow deep progression of opening and aligning, we will free our hearts and bask in the joy of back bending. There are so many benefits to enjoy. Backbends: • Stimulate the sympathetic nervous system • Realign the spine. • Promote proper kidney function. • Stimulate all the chakras, primarily creating opening in the fourth (heart) chakra. • Help to break through insecurity and fear. • Help to build confidence and self-esteem This workshop is for all levels . Both beginners and experienced students welcome.

At the age 5, Susan Elena started dancing beginning a lifelong fascination with form and alignment as well as the body/mind connection. She has been studying yoga for the past 18 years with a focus on Iyengar.
She is registered with the National Yoga Alliance at the E-RYT 200, 500 RYT level. She completed Senior Iyengar Teacher Elise Miller‘s Yoga for Scoliosis Teacher Training Program and is a Certified Yoga for Scoliosis Trainer. Her classes are infused with the knowledge of spinal health learned in that program. Susan Elena is a member of the International Association of Yoga Therapists, INYAUS – Iyengar National Yoga Association of the United States and the New England Iyengar Chapter. In 2013, she will continue teacher training studies with Peentz Dubble in Boston working towards assessment and certification in the Iyengar method. She attended an Iyengar based Advanced Teacher Training Program at Karuna Center for the Healing Arts with Eileen Muir with whom she continues to study with weekly. She has taken workshops with master Iyengar teachers Christian Pisano and HS Arun. Her strong interest in therapeutics led her to study with Doug Keller and Judith Lasater as well. Her love of yogic philosophy brings an added depth to her classes.
Susan Elena is a nationally recognized sculptor/artist, loves nature, playing the cello and believes yoga is the gateway for her students to reconnect with their bodies and spirits. Through yoga she endeavors to ease suffering and bring her students closer to a fuller, more joyful life.
