Suleyman’s Garden is a charming small traditional farm with a built in yoga retreat~ perched with stunning views over the Mediterranean, and with swimming from a rocky cove a five-minute walk away. It is not far from lovely Kabak Beach, an hour’s walk along a beautiful coastal path in the shade of the pine forest or alternatively 15 minutes by road. Further along the coast, accessible only by boat, is wonderful, isolated Springwater Beach.
Suleyman’s is in a very unspoiled area, on what is known as the ‘Lycian Way’, a marked trail, which is wonderful for walking on the dramatic and mountainous coastline. Despite being secluded, Suleyman’s Garden is also only a fifteen-minute minibus or taxi ride (in the opposite direction from Kabak Beach), to the small resort of Olu Deniz, with arguably Turkey’s most famous beach, for restaurants and shopping.
The accommodation is in simple, comfortable wooden cabins with balconies, shaded by vines and flowers, some with views of the sea and others with garden views. There are cabins with double beds (for either single or double occupation). There is a small traditional earth and stone house with two single beds. Bathrooms are shared and situated around the lush gardens.
Meals are delicious and in the style of Turkish village cooking. Our hosts use fresh local produce, much of it home grown, and occasionally fresh local fish. It is worth going for the food alone!
There is lovely small swimming pool with views over the terraces to the sea.
Listed next are some possible outings that could be arranged with help from the staff at Suleyman’s Garden.
*Springwater Beach, by boat.
*The Bay of Fethiye, by boat.
*Fethiye City (40 minutes by car). Bazaars, Turkish Baths, and the Ruins of Telmessos.
*The ancient Lycian sites of Tlos and Pinara.
*The deserted Greek village of Kayakoy.
* The extensive Roman city and beach at Patara.
And of course there is always the option to relax closer to your home away from home.
Last year one of our students was able to find a ruin hidden in the bushes off the Lycian Trail, very close to Suleyman’s next day she brought a friend who drew a map! I am hoping that map is still around. With or without a map, it is fun to look!
