Full Description

Anjuli and Alok have been teaching the unique practice of Contact Yoga in the SF Bay Area for over three years. Grounded in traditional yoga postures and principles, Contact Yoga explores that mysterious and dynamic edge where two people connect – physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Using the points of contact, Contact Yoga offers an inter-personal application of yogic philosophy that breaks down the barriers of separation while building an awareness and foundation for healthy relating.

Our first day we will meet in Big Sur and begin the uphill hike to Barlow Flats where we will stay for 3 nights. That evening we’ll have some restorative yoga and mellow partner stretching to help the miles melt away. The second day we will practice and play in the morning, and then take a day hike to Sykes Hot Springs and enjoy the natural hot mineral baths along the river in the afternoon. Day 3 will be filled with relaxing and swimming in the Big Sur river, Contact Yoga, and communing with nature. Day 4 will be a leisure morning in camp with more yoga, and then the hike out. The hiking is intermediate with a challenging but doable first day of 8 miles. The day hike to Sykes Hot Springs is 4 miles round trip.

With the days getting longer as we approach the summer solstice there will be plenty of time for reflection, laughing around the fire, sharing delicious organic and local meals prepared with love, and learning about the ecology of Big Sur. Alok is also a seasoned naturalist and loves to share his knowledge of the area and primitive skills. Anjuli incorporates the elements of nature into her dance and awareness teaching, encouraging students to experience a deeper resonance with our environment.

Whether this trip is your vacation, retreat, or healing journey- we’ve seen that people receive back the value that they put in and the power of their own intention and heartfelt desire. We so enjoy sharing this adventurous journey of life with you!

What is included in the price of a trip?

Back to Earth Outdoors provides delicious, organic, local, and lovingly prepared meals both at retreats and in the back-country; Back to Earth Organic Catering and Gather Restaurant both emerged out of the meals prepared on Back to Earth Outdoors trips. We also provide all group gear including water purification, first aid supplies and trained responders, instruction of the highest caliber, guides with experience and passion, and tents to clients who request them. Other gear is available in limited quantities and sizes to those who request it.

What’s not included in the price of a trip?

Because people fly from all over the world and travel from all over the country to join Back to Earth Outdoors we do not generally provide transportation to and from the starting points of our trips. We do however offer our time and energy to help organize carpools for those who are interested in reducing transportation costs and carbon emissions. Clients are also asked to bring their own backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, and other minor personal effects such as a bowl and spoon for meals. With prior arrangement we can however loan backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, water bottles, bowls, spoons, and mugs. These supplies are limited and loaned on a first come, first served basis.

What are the accommodations?

Our accommodations for this trip are the soft earth and the company of plants, animals and the night time sky, be it filled with stars or the light of the moon.

Where does my trip start?
