Born to Balance
This workshop is appropriate for personal use and for teaching.
Balance is essential for everything you do with your body. It is important for health and well-being, and crucial for safety and independence in later years. In this workshop, you will learn about the Yoga systems and techniques needed for working with balance.
Type of Event
Official time for check-in: 4 pm and check-out: 2 pm
Students will study the three systems of balance: the vestibular, proprioception (body awareness), and visual, as well as the following three technique levels.
Level 1: Helps beginners and senior citizens develop a strong foundation.
Level 2: Adds challenges to the foundational skills for people who already have a strong sense of balance.
Level 3: Assists athletes, performers, or others with exceptionally strong balance who want to excel in their personal training.
It is never too late to begin working on your balance. As Yoga practitioners or teachers, you should have a thorough understanding of how balance works and how to leverage it for yourself or your students.
These techniques use the feet as the base for stabilization. You will learn skills for developing a stronger mind-foot connection, and how to apply these techniques to specific Yoga poses. You’ll explore the role of core strength in balance and how it is essential for good posture.
You’ll also learn to train the arms and legs to help with balance and assist you in regaining and maintaining it. Many of these techniques are adopted from the circus arts and dance.
For example, imagine you have tilted slightly off balance. Your impulse may be to flail your limbs around in a franticly. With training, the arms and legs will move in the opposite direction of the fall and counterbalance you back to center. Essentially, you can reprogram your unconscious motor memory!
