Chair Yoga Teacher Training

In this 2-day program you will learn to teach chair yoga to a variety of populations. You will learn flowing sequences to relax, stretch and strengthen for different ability levels.

Chair supported yoga is appropriate for:

Movement disorders
Balance issues
Students who can’t easily get on and off the floor
Students who just wish to remain seated during a practice for other reasons
Office workers

Learn benefits of the flows, precautions, variations, and ways to incorporate pranayama and meditation. You will practice teaching the flows and creating your own flow.

Full Description


Day 1

Morning: Seated upper body flow practice followed by a discussion of postures chosen, alternatives that could be substituted, contraindications, precautions, and modifications including props.

Afternoon: Seated lower body routine practice followed by a discussion including modifications, contraindications, and precautions.

Day 2

Morning: Standing flow practice followed by discussion of balance issues and strengthening techniques. It will also include more advanced options for those who are capable of a more rigorous practice with the help of chair support. Discussion includes contraindications, precautions and modifications.

Afternoon: Discussion of how to match a practice to different types of students. Practice creating and teaching a flow. Discussion of other practices that can be incorporated and alternatives for ending a class.

Ruth Landsman has been practicing yoga since 1992 and teaching floor and chair yoga classes full time since 2002. She is certified in TriYoga Basics through Level 2. Besides her classes at TriYoga Boston, Ruth also teaches at other locations in Newton and Waltham. See for details.
