We will begin the retreat with one night in Athens, at a beautiful 4-star hotel overlooking the Acropolis, and have dinner out in the romantic old city, the Plaka, after a travel-recovery yoga session. The following morning we’ll visit the magnificent Parthenon and the splendid new Parthenon museum among the ruins, before taking the ferry together to the island of Amorgos. We stay for a full, luscious week, absorbing the light, the sea, and the life.
I chose this island because it is gorgeous and still unspoiled, allowing a taste of true, traditional Greek life and culture, along with providing a splendid setting for the practices of yoga. We will dive deep, over the week, and explore the empowering archetypes of the Greek goddesses of mythology to empower and enhance our practice.
The movie “The Big Blue”, by Luc Besson, was filmed on Amorgos. A good way to see the scenery!
We will be staying in a beautiful spa-hotel on Amorgos, with every amenity – but it’s owned by a lovely local family who welcome us as their own. So there is plenty of local color.
Our days on the island typically begin with optional "sunrise coffee club", where we gather for pre-practice java and snacks, and watch Homer's mythic "rosy-fingered dawn" spread her magic light over sea and sky (or you can sleep in!), while some take an early-morning swim. Morning yoga is dynamic and energizing, followed by a bountiful breakfast. The day includes time to lounge on the beaches right below the hotel, or the beautiful, sea-water swimming pool, take advantage of the spa's massages, or simply relax.
On some days, there will be the option to join a hike to explore neighboring traditional villages, discover the herbs and views of Amorgos, visit ancient monasteries perched on cliffs, and take a boat ride to an tiny island just off the coast, in a traditional fishing caique.
We will visit the main town of the island, with its dozens of windmills and labyrinthine, white streets, and check out boutiques, of course, with perhaps a swim in an isolated cove along the way.
Early-evenings we will gather in the beautiful yoga-space for a relaxing, restorative practice to refresh and renew, before dinner.
Nights are filled with stars, sometimes Greek musicians, and always, great company.
Travel support and counsel is available to plan your trip.

MORE ABOUT THE YOGA
All levels of yoga experience are welcome, with individual stages of practice and modifications to honor and address each student.
Morning yoga sessions will be dynamic and energizing, with clear, personalized alignment instruction that calls upon the innate intelligence of the body. Yoga philosophy, and stories from the mythology that underlies the yoga tradition as well as Greek archetypes will be integrated into our sessions. Greece provides an inspiring and meaningful context to explore the mythic dimension of yoga, offering ancient wisdom and metaphor to explore our relationship to ourselves and the world. Playful challenge helps each student to discover her own power, beauty, and courage, and advance her practice.
On most afternoons we will also enjoy a restorative yoga practice. All yoga sessions are held in a spacious and beautiful, open-air pavilion.
Greece & Yoga are a match made in Heaven.
