Heart Openers for the Holidays!

Backbends allow us to counteract the effects of poor posture and they also stimulate the central nervous system and the immune system; boosting energy levels to leave the mind more clear and focused.

In this 2-hour backbend workshop, learn the fundamental techniques of backbends, as we move progressively through a sequence of postures that safely work toward deeper backbends.

Open your heart to the holiday season through the joy of backbends!

These invigorating yoga poses strengthen the spine and core, build stamina, improve circulation, and open up much needed space throughout the shoulders, chest and ribcage, allowing us to breathe more fully.

When done correctly, backbends help increase extension and mobility of the spine, combating the constant effects of gravity that pull us forward. Backbends can be challenging, but should be comfortable – if not, you may be compressing your lumbar spine. With safe alignment, backbend poses can become a therapeutic part of your yoga practice.

Aside from the tremendous physical benefits, there are also psychological and emotional benefits as energetically, backbends open the heart center chakra. Heart-opening and invigorating, backbends generate feelings of vulnerability and can help us let go of fear. For some, backbends are exhilarating while for others, they can be somewhat daunting. Join us as we explore these powerful poses to cultivate a feeling of freedom, perhaps even joy, in the upper body.
