You should fly into either Florence or Pisa international airports on Saturday 08 or 15 August and depart either Saturday 15 or 22 August, depending on whether you wish to partake in 1 or 2 weeks of the retreat.
Make your own way to Montevarchi by train, where we will arrange for a driver to pick you up and bring you to the villa ccommodation.

I am very pleased to invite you to my 10th annual "Yoga for Dancers" Retreat in Tuscany, Italy. This year we'll have the pleasure of staying for two weeks in the beautiful new location of 'La Selva - Il Giardino del Belvedere', surrounded by ancient oaks, olive groves and meadows. The 300 year old renovated stone farmhouse (complete with mosquito nets on all bedroom windows!), lies in a vast natural botanical garden, nestled in the Chianti hills within a 30km radius of Florence, Siena and Arezzo.

WHAT IS 'YOGA FOR DANCERS'?

Unlike in a traditional yoga class, positions are not held but repeated in a fluid undulation, that gently unravels knots both mental and physical, giving the body a sense of comfort in its movement.

As in a dance class, there is an initial warm up bringing a sensory perception to the body before going into deeper breathing and movement exercises. These equally open and strengthen the body to achieve a balanced harmony, which in turn brings a sense of extension and lightness into the body.

WHO IS HILARY CARTWRIGHT?

Following her Career as a soloist with the Royal Ballet in England, Hilary became a ballet teacher, a coach, a director and a stager of ballets. She has been teaching Yoga for Dancers for the past 25 years after co-finding White Cloud Studio in New York with Juliu Horvath, where together they developed the Gyrotonic system.

"Hilary is renowned for using imagery in her class to help visualize the shape of the movements This combined with a sense of humor, so no one takes themselves too seriously, results in an accelerated rate of achievement.

Her unique approach and presentation of the work has taken her all over the world and her acclaim appeals both to internationally renowned ballet companies and an ever expanding group of individuals who are non dancers. She developed this style of yoga for dancers initially , but came to feel that dance inspires, informs and lives inside everyone.

Please feel free to bring a friend or partner. We have discounted rates for participants who will not be joining in the Yoga classes.

You will be hosted and have your meals prepared by Angus and Tania of Chirriposa Retreats.
