Full Description

Four nights and four days in the mystical, volcanic land often referred to as the « Seventh Chakra » of the Earth. Awaken your senses, your being, through yoga, thermal baths, self-inquiry, nurturing, meditation, and three adventure treks (optional).

During our time together, we will focus on yoga, meditation and personal well being practices to open our mind and inner awareness, work our bodies without pain and just have fun being in wonderland. The yoga practices will include a combination of gentle and dynamic movement, deep relaxation with yoga nidra, breathwork and meditation.

Research now shows that meditation can decrease the negative effects of stress on ourselves. Additionally, certain studies show that meditative practices focusing on altruism, compassion and loving kindness awaken parts of our brain that stimulate positive emotions, increase our immune system, lessen anxiety and thus contribute overall to a better world. We will teach these practices to you.

We will take advantage of the hours of daylight to be outdoors in this land of high energy and high vibrations—walking, adventuring, experiencing the magic of Iceland.

ELEMENTAL JOURNEY TOWARDS BALANCE is for all individuals and levels of experience—the only requirement is a be oneself, without effort.

Overlooking the snow covered mountains and black lava fields, the Ion Hotel (45 minute drive from Reykjavik) is located next to the Thingveillir National Park. Our base for the next five days, the Ion offers a beautiful yoga studio, deluxe rooms (twin or queen), an outdoor natural thermal pool (40°), sauna and relaxation area.

We will enjoy a sumptuous brunch, packed lunch for our daily outings and a delicious 2 course dinner exquisitely prepared with surprising compositions.

Our journey starts with a 13h pickup on Wednesday 25 february from a central location in Reykjavik and will finish on Sunday 1 march at 12h with a dropoff back to Reykjavik. Therefore, take time before our retreat to visit Reykjavik, do the Golden Circle tour and the Blue Lagoon—the 3 musts for all voyagers to Iceland. Then, your trip continues with us at the Ion Hotel.

Yogasanas, breathwork, relaxing yoga nidra, meditation, bathing in the thermal baths and walks in the nature will be part of our daily schedule. Three, optional, « adventures » in the wilderness : snorkeling in the crystal clear waters of the Silfra at the Thingveillir National Park, an afternoon of riding horses—Iceland has one of the oldest breeds on the planet (Viking era) and hiking up from the thermal village of Hverageroi to bathe in the babbling hotsprings river--yes in february!!

These are all part of experiencing mindfully this sacred terrain-- outer exploration mirrored by our daily inner exploration during practices of yoga, meditation and mindfulness. Balance.

This is a time to experience the essence of oneness with the elements, nature and yourself. The amazing aurora borealis or northern lights is Nature’s evening show—we just never know if she is coming out to see us or not. Far from city lights we have excellent viewing possibilities from the Ion Hotel.

Holly Niemela, yoga and meditation teacher, mind-body therapist. In 2002 initiated into Karma Sannyas in the traditional yogique lineage of Saraswati by Swami Niranjan and Paramahamsa Satyananda of the Bihâr School of Yoga in India. Holly has studied yoga and mind-body thérapies for over 27 years with teachers from Europe, the United States and India. She is a Reiki Master, directly trained by American John Harvey Grey. Holly is also trained in Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) under the direction of Jon Kabat- Zinn. Holly’s intention is to share ancient teachings in a modern format, using Nature in order to help others connect to themselves and contribute to a more humaine world.

She will be seconded by Edouard Payen, Mindfulness Instructor.
Edouard Payen, After an MBA from New York University and 25 years of experience in the banking, corporate finance and capital markets in New York, London and Paris, Edouard made a dramatic career jump in 2009 to become a mindfulness and “presencing” consultant to companies and organizations interested in promoting a more humain workstyle and workplace. Trained in MBSR, mindfulness and leadership, the implementation of Theory U (Otto Scharmer/MIT) and Gross National Happiness (GNH) in Bhutan, Edouard works with individuals, change makers and other forward thinking international companies in Europe. A long time Zen meditator and holder of a blackbelt in karate shotokan,Edouard is currently installing the first Institute of Mindfulness and Happiness in France. Edouard believes the embodiment of the present moment is the key to being human.
