Day 1 Pick up from airport take to Sacha Munay
Your trip begins with your arrival to Cusco airport. Here, we will pick you up so you should arrive between 8am and 10:30am on Day 1 (we recommend sleeping at a hotel in Lima overnight the previous day, and then take a noon-ish flight from Lima to Cusco).
The guide and driver will take you on the gorgeous, 1.5 hour drive to the Sacred Valley where you will check into your hotel and then have lunch. Its time to relax from your travels with an afternoon yoga session. We close our day with an amazing
Day 2 August Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo
Early morning yoga class before we head out to the magnificent Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo. This place is amazing with Stunning views and incredible quality of stonework. Ollantaytambo fortress takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. (Included are all entrance fees).
Afterward, the guide will take you to another one of our favorite places to enjoy the sack lunch before heading out on a 25 minute drive, to one of our favorite places called “Pumamarca”. This is a ruin from the pre-Inca era and so is even older than Machu Picchu and is estimated to be from the 1200’s. Best of all, there are very few other travelers and is at the confluence of two beautiful Andean valleys with great vistas and energy where we will enjoy the views during a private, instructor-led yoga session. You will then return to your hotel.
Day 3 Day in Cusco exploring
At the time of the Spanish conquest of Peru in 1535, Cusco was one of the largest cities anywhere on the planet. Methodically and intricately laid out by civil engineers, the Incan streets, buildings, foundations, and waterways survive perfectly intact up to this very day. Added to this beautiful colonial architecture from the Spanish, and Cusco remains one of the world’s most unique and beautiful cities. (It also sits at a breath-gasping altitude of 11,000 feet above sea level, so take it easy walking on the steep streets!)
We’ll spend the day exploring Cusco, starting with what is known as the Sacsayhuaman (“sexy woman”) circuit above Cusco. A string of 4 fantastic Inca sites (Tambo Machay, Puka Pukara, Quenko, and the grand finale Sacsayhuaman, home to some of the largest, most impressively carved and fitted granite stones anywhere on the planet !) All Inca site entrance costs today are included in your trip.
After a lunch sampling some of the famous Peruvian cuisine – including a visit to world-renowned Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio’s restaurant in Cusco’s main Plaza de Armas – we will spend the next couple hours on a relaxed schedule of seeing some museums, some of the famous fine stone palaces of the Inca emperors, or maybe just walking around and sightseeing and people watching.
Late afternoon we will regroup and head back to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.)
Day 4 Abra Malaga, the Continental Divide of South America
This morning after our morning yoga session and breakfast, we will take you up on a gorgeous, private drive one hour from town to Abra Malaga, the Continental Divide of South America at an altitude of 14, 300 feet above sea level. On the drive up there are numerous waterfalls, Inca ruins (some half covered) and traditional small farming hamlets. It is one of the most beautiful drives in Peru, and on the way down, you can choose to ride a bike back downhill (all downhill on a paved road) at no extra charge.
This valley is loaded with covered and half-covered Inca sites and even some archaeological sites that predate the Incas. They are practically deserted and we will take our time today, adding at the instructor’s discretion a yoga session respectfully taking place in the middle of some ancient Inca terraces!
We will take a late afternoon train to Aguas Calientes and our hotel
Day 5 Machu Picchu Day
Today is the day we finally visit Machu Picchu! One of the 7 Wonders of the World, it was built/finished sometime in the 1400’s, and is a truly awe-inspiring place in all senses of the word. No matter how much hype it receives, a visit to Machu Picchu is a stunning experience.
We’ll do it right, eating a big, healthy breakfast before taking an early bus from our hotel in Aguas Calientes up to the site itself, it takes about 25 minutes to climb the steep, winding road. We will spend the day walking around the site and visiting.
Yoga mats are not allowed on the grounds but we are free to do some movements, alone or as a group, during our visit today.
We then head to celebrate at a post-Machu Picchu dinner at one of our favorite restaurants in Peru, the romantic Peru/French fusion delights at Indio Feliz before taking the train back to Ollantaytambo and our hotel for a well-deserved night’s sleep.
Day 6 SUP Yoga
After breakfast and morning yoga session, today we will be combining yoga with standup paddleboarding on a beautiful lake in a stunning, Sacred Valley andean plateau between Cusco and Ollantaytambo. We will drive to the lagoon and get oriented. Once in the lagoon, we started with a briefing and then do some warm-ups, and then enter the lagoon, then continue paddling yoga session.
This special session of Yoga is not only the place, landscapes and lake conditions, but the echo of doing Yoga on a moving surface, this represents an extra challenge for any practitioner of Yoga.
The session takes place as a normal session of Yoga, the teacher will be leading the classes and practicing the best positions.
Afterward, we will go by van and visit two uniquely different but spectacular Inca sites: The Salt Mines of Maras, and the rings of Moray. (entrance fees included)
Day 7 Day of ceremony at Sacha Munay
Today you will start you day with a wonderful breakfast and a yoga class. You will experience the coco leaf ceremony and Despacho ceremony today.
Optional: Hike to the waterfall
