Ayama Yoga Retreats Greece Program
Morning Kundalini class
Kundalini Yoga is a physical and meditative discipline that combines postures (asanas), breath (pranayama), and the chanting of mantras. In Kundalini we are working with energy. Through the practice of Yoga and Meditation, even for a very short period of time, major improvements in physical health and mental clarity are possible. It is also a lot of fun.
Afternoon Yin Yoga class
Yin yoga is suitable for almost all levels of students, Yin Yoga is a perfect complement to the dynamic and muscular (yang) styles of yoga that emphasize internal heat, and the lengthening and contracting of our muscles. Yin Yoga generally targets the connective tissues of the hips, pelvis, and lower spine. You will feel relaxed and renewed after a Yin Yoga class.
Capital of the island, Chora is a medieval town organized around an impressive rock on top of which are the ruins of a venetian castle. With its byzantine and early Christian churches, its windmills, its traditional houses, its narrow and paved streets, Chora reminds of a labyrinth and has a particular atmosphere. Located in a beautiful 17th century patrician house the archeological museum presents a collection of various finds made in the island mostly from the Bronze Age and classical period.
Agios Valsamitis Monastery
Built in the 17th century on a oldest church from the 9th century, the Post Byzantine monastery of Agios Valsamitis is a dependency of Hozoviotissa Monastery. At about 4 km from Chora, on the way to Kato Meria, this monastery stands on top of a hill, overlooking the valley beneath and the sea. A holy water spring is located on the site and was in pre-Christian times famous for its healing and prophetic properties. Because of that, the church had such an important fame during Ottoman period that sailors were coming from all around the region to see it.
Mother Mary Chozoviotissa Monastery
Built 1000 years ago into the face of a cliff, 300 m above the sea level, Chozoviotissa Monastery provides a breathtaking view on the blue sparkling waters of the Aegean Sea. Founded in 1088 by the Byzantine emperor Alexus Comnenus I, its purpose was to house an icon of Panaghia Chozoviotissa believed to have arrived on an unmanned boat from Palestine. Considered as one of the most impressive byzantine monastery in Greece, Chozoviotissa Monastery is the pride of Amorgos.
Hiking tour from Tholaria to Lagada village
Amorgos is famous worldwide for its hiking trails. There are several marked historical paths to explore the different areas of the island on foot. Most of them are old donkey routes that connected the villages of Amorgos. Try the path from the village of Tholaria to the village of Langada. It is a traverse which rewards spectacular views of the entire valley of Aegiali and the four villages Tholaria, Langada, Ormos and Potamos. This path is easy to navigate and well marked. Feel free to enjoy the landscape and to see the famous Amorgian Herbs.

Nor a believer to visit the famous monastery of Panagia Hozoviotissa which was created as an ode to the Grace of Virgin Mary let alone view the sacred water running into a bowl within the church of St George Valsamitis where the old oracle used to be and the priests would read a person destiny by examining a glass of water using unwritten rules passed verbally.
