Luxury Summer Retreat at Dzogchen Beara
A luxury weekend yoga and nutrition retreat at the beautiful and peaceful Buddhist meditation centre, Dzogchen Beara in West Cork.
This retreat will be held in Dechen Shying, the new spiritual care centre at Dzogchen Beara. Guests will sleep, eat and practice in this centre. Dechen Shying is a stunningly beautiful, comfortable and inspiring place to restore yourself and take time out of your life to reflect and settle into peace.
Type of Event
Prices start at €360 and are all inclusive
The yoga practice will be held by Jessica Hatchett. The sessions will focus on how a yoga practice can bring you closer to yourself, balance and restore your vital force, find peace, stillness and strength at all the different points in your life.
The yoga during the weekend is aimed at all levels of experience and physical abilities. Whether you are a total beginner or a teacher you will find the sessions interesting, relaxing, challenging and rewarding. For example:
One year Susan brought her elderly and terminally ill mother on the retreat. Veronica joined in most yoga practices from her chair with adapted variations to suit her physical abilities.
I am very often joined by 'yogies' with years of experience and impressive abilities. All of whom have left feeling challenged and satisfied physicaly and with new insights and different perspectives on themselves and their yoga practice.
An overview of the practice times:
At 6pm on Friday we will begin with a settling-in yoga practice, followed by dinner at around 8pm.
Then a deeply relaxing Yoga Nidra meditation at around 9pm, before bed.
Saturday will start at 7am, with an early yoga practice, then a light breakfast at around 8.30am.
There will be a 2-hour yoga session before lunch. This practice will focus on specific Asanas and posture flows in detail. Helping you to learn more about, and refine, a practice that suits you and your body.
There will be a long break during the afternoon for you to enjoy the beautiful surroundings, learn more about the food you are eating or just go back to bed!
The late afternoon yoga practice will be more experimental and will have a self enquiry element, based on yogic principals. After dinner there will be a gentle session with meditation, or an early night.
Sunday will follow the same schedule, except that we will finish earlier with a light meal for your journey after the final practice.
You have the option of 'ducking out' of any of the yoga practices if you are feeling tired or want to do something else.
We practice silence during the morning and breakfast, which can feel strange at first, but is always one of the most popular and relaxing aspects of the weekend.
There will be the option of joining the 'loving kindness' meditations that are held at the centre also. There is also the option of booking to stay at the centre on the Thursday or Sunday night if you would like to extend your weekend.
All the meals on the retreat will be made by Bridget Healy one of the co-founders of Cafe Paradiso, and Caitlin Ruth.
Most of the rooms at the centre are twin, so if you are coming alone you will be asked to share a room. I work hard to insure that everyone gets a comfortable night and the sharing is compatible, but if sharing is a concern or an issue for you, then there are a few private room options.
The pricing works on a sliding scale depending on the type of room you choose. These prices are all inclusive; accom, all your meals and and the yoga tuition.
In Dechen Shying, the spiritual care centre, there are three room options:
A small twin room with an onsuite bathroom and sea views is €360 per person sharing.
A large twin room with an onsuite bathroom, large conservatory and sea views is €390 per person sharing.
A private double room with an onsite bathroom and sea views is €390 per person sharing or €460 for an individual.
In Grainnes Hostel which is on the grounds, about 5 mins walk from the centre there are a few more accomodation options. (This hostel is cosy and homely but it's not 'luxury' accomodation like Dechen Shying).
A private single room with a shared bathroom in the hostel is €360
A bed in either the mens or womens dormitory with a shared bathroom is €330
There is also a beautiful cliff side cottage with 3 bedrooms and its own kitchen and living room. This cottage has stunning sea views and is very quite and comfortable. The room otions and prices are:
A private double room with onsuite bathroom and sea views is €460
A single private room with shared bathroom is €400
A twin room with a shared bathroom is €360 per person sharing or €400 for an individual
I ask for a deposit of €200 to secure your place and the remaining balance four weeks before the retreat. Your deposit is fully refundable up to 4 weeks before the retreat. After this time 70% deposit is refundable on the basis that I can fill your place.
There is a limit of 17 people for this weekend, so to book your place call Jessica on 087 7852491
Feedback from previous retreats:
"I have been trying to find the word to describe the retreat and the only one which comes close is 'perfect'. The yoga practices were so well paced and the balance between restorative and more challenging postures was perfectly paced for me. The added dimension of silence in the mornings was deeply comforting and the sense of well-being afterwards was incredible. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough - mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually. It was truly personal and profound. Thank you so much x." – Anne, July 2014
"Wow! Wow! Wow! Loved every minute! Food amazing, yoga amazing, silence amazing!" Susan Steel, July 2014
"Only just getting around to thanking you for the wonderful retreat last weekend - it was truly inspiring. I was re-reading the programme outline on the website which said that: The sessions will be focused on how a yoga practice can bring you closer to yourself, balance and restore your vital force, find peace, stillness and strength at all the different points in your life. I can genuinely say that I achieved all that was promised and much more - we were in great company, but at the same time had enough space and experienced plenty of laugh, as well as tears along the way. The centre is located in a beautiful setting and was a comfortable and inspiring place to take time out. Of course, we had the added bonus of magnificent food and stunning weather. All in all, a perfect weekend! I’d love to go again and am recommending it to all my yogi friends in Kilkenny." – Evelyn Graham
"I just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for the weekend. I'm still glowing - honestly loads of people have told me this past week how well I'm looking. It was the single most restorative and positively challenging few days I've had in years. I wouldn't change a thing, everything was just right. The setting was nothing short of magnificent and even the weather you 'ordered' (warm sunny outdoor yoga, swimming weather on Saturday and stormy wildness on Sunday!) The delicious food and fun we had sitting down and eating together really added to the sense of 'goodness' throughout the time - thanks, Bridget and Sarah. And the yoga - What can I say? It was spot-on, varied, restorative, stretchy, massaging, restful, edge finding, nicely tiring and more. Each session left me wanting more and really the weekend was over too fast. But it has reawakened 'the joy of yoga' in me. I'm back!!! Namaste Jessica." – Claire Graham, after the autumn retreat 2013
"I was in Bali last summer for 1 month, with 2 weeks of daily yoga at the Yoga barn in Ubud. I absolutely loved this experience. On reflecting on the weekend, I feel I got everything in Beara with you that I loved in Bali, from early morning flows, Vinyasa flows, Yin Yoga, Restorative yoga, and the mindfulness/meditative aspects. AND I learned and experienced yoga Nidra :) The food really supported our practice (and was delicious), and the accommodation and location are just beyond amazing. I can't say enough. I Ieft Beara with a new found confidence in myself, more connected to my mind and body, and with an eagerness to maintain this." Tara Houlihan, April 2014
