DEEP HIP OPENERS AND TWISTS.
In this workshop we will explore a variety of hip opening preparations that can lead eventually to poses like Eka Pada Sirsasana or “ leg behind the head ” They can also shed some light on challenges or limitations you may be experiencing in your knees. We will also explore key actions involved in maximizing the benefit in twists.
DEVELOPING DEEPER AND HEALTHIER BACKBENDS.
In this workshop our theme will be finding balance as we go deeper! We will be exploring the backbend portion of Ashtanga’s intermediate series to find a balance between the areas of our bodies that need to open versus the areas which require strengthening and stabilizing and why.
“TUNING” YOUR HAMSTRINGS IN FORWARD BENDS:
Often misunderstood, Hamstrings play an essential role in our forward bends. As much as they need to “open” or stretch, they are also required to give us stability and support as we move into deeper forward bends. By honoring the strength as well as the stretch we can tune our hamstrings to the perfect amount of tension to serve both. Come and learn some invaluable tools to promote balance in the back-body and avoid injury.
SALUTATIONS TO THE PILLARS OF STRENGTH”
Arm balances help us to develop the strength, stamina and focus to truly energize our practice. Connecting to core strength as well as proper shoulder alignment is key. In this workshop we will explore the inter-connection between handstands and vinyasa, and how this connection can be explored through Surya Namaskara A and B (Sun Salutations). From Sun Salutations, we will embrace the work in more exhilarating arm balances (such as headstands, handstands, and forearm balances) to feel a shift towards a stronger, more confident and more stable experience in our practice.
