The nature of the mind is to keep busy, usually focusing on problems, worries, anxieties and fears, creating an unhealthy environment. The Hindu literature compares the mind to a drunken monkey that has been bit by a scorpion. Very Active! It becomes our challenge to refocus and calm our mind by meditating, which is holding the mind on one thought or object for a period of time.
Becoming proficient in this skill takes time and consistent practice. Researchers have found that meditation benefits both the body and mind by lowering blood pressure, drug dependency, cholesterol, anxiety levels, asthma and other psychosomatic dis-eases, while increasing stress resilience, ability to fall asleep, brain hemisphere synchronicity and alertness.
We will discuss meditation and practice a variety of techniques to help you relax and take you deeper.

Jeff Gero, researched and wrote his doctoral dissertation on meditation and has been meditating for 35 years. He was initiated into yoga by Swami Satchidananda and has studied with Baba Hari Dass for the past 30 years. As a consultant Dr. Gero has worked for the Los Angeles Times, Sheraton Hotels, Amgen, Disney, General Motors, Hawaiian Telephone, Blue Shield, Dole, The Department of the Army, CA. State Dept. of Corrections and the University of Hawaii.
