Learn a meditative writing practice called "close observation," which can help hone your attention in a world where so much else is clamoring for it.
Type of Event
In this workshop you'll learn how a meditative writing practice, coupled with movement, can boost creative insight and mental clarity. You'll be introduced to a meditative writing practice called "close observation," which can help hone your attention in a world where so much else is clamoring for it.
For those new to meditation, close observation offers an accessible entry to a contemplative practice. For established writers, it can improve your power of description. You can use this technique to produce more vivid descriptive passages in your work, as well as learn to establish a shortcut for dropping into a flow state ideal for writing or other creative pursuits.
Bring a journal and comfortable clothing. Weather permitting, some portions of the workshop will be outside. The yoga will be accessible to all levels, including beginners. So will the writing!
Erika is a yoga teacher and journalist who has covered everything from Congress to climate change in her career. She uses close observation as her daily meditation practice. Over time, she has noticed that the days that begin with this meditative practice produce not only the conditions for more skillful reporting and writing, but a clearer and calmer state of mind.
