Yoga nidra or “yogi sleep” is among the deepest possible states of relaxation while still maintaining full consciousness. This practice has been incorporated by yogis for thousands of years and has served to elevate consciousness as well as to reduce such physical discomforts as tension and anxiety. It has even been known to help soldiers cope with PTSD.
