Mudra Workshop

In this workshop we will explore hand and body mudras as a way to direct breath, energy and attention in yoga postures, breathing practices and meditation. They can accentuate the action of a pose, for example to expand breath into the ribs in a side bend or to create more stability for holding a balance posture. Mudras can help us to feel changes in our energy and provide another way to focus and to direct our breath and attention. They make the invisible visible.

Full Description

Mudras are gestures of the hands and body. They have been used for centuries and seen in statues from many religions. Ancient India developed an entire language of these gestures.

Susanne Murtha, e-RYT500, has been teaching in the Adirondacks since 1996. She learned mudras from Joseph and Lillian LePage in the Integrative Yoga Therapy Professional Yoga Therapy Program and from Richard Miller during her iRest® training.

I am grateful to Richard Miller and Joseph & Lillian LePage for an introduction to mudras and how they can be used to deepen my experience of yoga.
