Yoga nidra (Yogic sleep) involves relaxing, laying down with a blanket and as many pillows as you wish to deeply rest your body while you are guided through relaxation, rotation of consciousness and visualization. Yoga Nidra is excellent in reducing stress, blood pressure, and setting positive intention (a Sankalpa).
One of the best, and most ancient, ways to set a resolution or intention is by practicing Yoga Nidra, which is a deep guided meditation that creates deep relaxation and allows the practitioner to access the subconscious while creating a sankalpa, or resolution, that can be life affirming or even life changing.
In yoga philosophy, the term sankalpa, is a Sanskrit word meaning "thought, intention, resolve or will directed toward a specific outcome." And what better time to create your sankalpa than when welcoming the new year.
