No prior experience of any kind is required!!!

Anna Winkler has been practicing and teaching yoga since 1989, when she certified with the Sivananda Yoga Organization, in both India and Canada. She served as a volunteer staff member there for 6 years, assisting in Yoga Teacher Training courses and modeling for 2 yoga books, among other things. Anna has been practicing Ashtanga Yoga since 1997 (with Eddie Stern and other authorized teachers), and teaching Ashtanga since 2002. She has been studying and practicing Iyengar Yoga at Studio Yoga in Madison, NJ since 2007, where she received her second 500 hour teaching certificate. Anna teaches an Alignment Based Hatha Yoga class. Her Ashtanga classes are also alignment influenced. Anna has been teaching in the Maplewood, NJ area since 2001, and is the founder and director of Shakti Yoga & living arts (since 2005). Anna is also a Licensed Massage Therapist and Certified Ayurveda Lifestyle Consultant.

Trish O'Gorman is a level 1 and 2 trained teacher of Kundalini yoga who has been teaching several classes a week, leading workshops and trainings, since 2005 . Trish's love for Kundalini yoga and her daily commitment to her own practice is apparent in all her classes. She credits Kundalini yoga as a saving grace in all aspects of her life. Having experienced the many blessing of Kundalini she shares her love for these teachings with humor, devotion and a sense of fun. "Happiness is your birthright", said Yogi Bhajan, so helping people rediscover their joy, their peace and come home to themselves is Trish's mission on the mat.

Gena Rho is an educator, dancer, yogini and certified Essential Somatics Clinical Somatic Educator. She has a private practice in Maplewood and NYC where she see clients privately and teaches Somatic Movement, yoga, workshops and classes as well as training and mentoring teachers. She is an adjunct professor at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University. Gena’s career as a modern dancer included performing and teaching internationally as a member of the Trisha Brown Company. She has an MFA in Dance from NYU TISCH School of the Arts.

Classical Hatha Yoga with Anna Winkler
Anna will give you a brief overview of the 4 main paths of yoga, the 8 limbs of Raja Yoga, including the Yamas and Niyamas (5 each), as well as a brief introduction to the basics of Ayurveda, the sister science to yoga; this will include an introduction to the 5 elements, the 3 Doshas and the importance of Dinacharya (Daily Practices). She will assist you in finding a daily (well, regular) practice (Sadhana) that works for you and your lifestyle; and is sustainable, thought provoking, and possibly a bit of a challenge ~ if you're up for that kind of thing! There will be some belly laughs too ~ we hope!!

Kundalini Yoga & Meditation with Trish O'Gorman
Sadhana (Daily practice) is the most sacred practice of Kundalini yoga. Trish's goal for this retreat is to help you find a daily practice that brings peace and healing and gentleness, by giving you an experience of Kundalini and offering you the opportunity to find a meditation that resonates. A daily, devotional practice returns us to ourselves, it is a time for us to connect to our intuitive selves and that quiet voice of the soul before we go out into the world and our external lives. During this time we move our bodies, awaken to ourselves and embrace the day through Kundalini yoga and meditation. We unite our intention for the day with our true purpose.

Hanna Somatics with Gena Rho
The experience of our body from within defines the somatic perspective. Learning our true nature, deeply knowing what we sense and feel is equally a part of the somatic and the yogic journey. During our weekend together, the somatic part of the journey will be focused on cultivating awareness of your body from within. Our nervous system follows our lead. What we expose ourselves to either by choice or default, has an impact on our system. Following and honoring the tradition of Thomas Hanna’s Somatic education, we will explore the unknown resistance in our bodies and minds. Our unconscious patterns of holding often create tension and pain in the body. Thoughts and resistant ideas will also contribute to tension in the body. Hanna’s method offers us a unique way to learn what habits might be keeping us away from the fullest expression of ourselves. This is a perfect compliment to our yoga practice and supports our desire to move through life unencumbered, free of pain or resistance and toward joy.
