We live in an age of chronic stress. Between juggling the competing demands of work and family to staying "connected" via multiple electronic devices to simply driving on the highway, our daily lives are insidiously stressful. Regardless of our trigger, constant stress has lasting physiological effects: digestive and elimination slows, the bodies' ability to heal itself is compromised, and conditions such as high blood pressure and depression may develop.
Restorative yoga is an effective antidote to stress because it encourages deep relaxation through sustained periods of rest. Taught in a warm, candlelit setting, students will utilize blankets, bolsters, blocks, and other props, to be guided into gentle, supported postures. Restorative is a yoga of "being": there is no "doing", no effort, and no external stimuli or distractions, thus quieting the mind and nervous system.
All are welcome, regardless of age, mobility, or fitness level. Recommended for pregnant students as well.
Please bring one or two firm pillows (couch cushions work well, too!) a yoga mat, and a blanket. Comfortable clothing - even pajamas! - a pair of socks, and dressing in layers is highly encouraged. Feel free to bring an eye pillow or sleep mask.
