This course is for everyone and every body. It is highly beneficial for those who want to knowledgeably develop a restorative home practice, for teachers who want to confidently and safely guide their students into restorative yoga postures, and for medical professionals who want to adapt wholistic tools to share with their patients.

Full Description

Restorative Yoga is the practice of supporting the body in a specific asana (posture) with the use of props such as bolsters, blankets, blocks, etc. In this state the asana is able to be held for significantly longer than without support, which gives the body an opportunity to open and release long held muscles on a deeper level than in an active yoga practice.

The stillness of body and mind allows: mental and physical tension to dissolve, your body to rejuvenate, your nervous system to calm, and invites the innate intelligence of the bodies’ systems to reintegrate. Through this practice you are guided towards your natural state of health and well being. Restorative Yoga is beneficial for every body!

All of these topics will be covered:
- three full restorative yoga practices led by Colleen, one daily, each with a different focus
- modifying postures for comfort, injuries, etc.
- prop set-up for over 20 restorative poses
- anatomy of the spine, including directional movement
- anatomical neutral and the pelvis
- central nervous system basics
- blanket folding 101
- balanced sequencing
- gain confidence and knowledge needed for a home restorative practice
- appropriate pranayama (breath exercise) practices for restorative yoga
- practice postures with a partner
- setting the space
- questions and answers
- how to instruct others into restorative poses
- adapting for fused discs, scoliosis, injuries, and using chairs for modifications
- appropriate adjustments and poses for pregnancy - and what to avoid
- modifying when a studio does not have enough props
- breathing techniques, focuses and imagery
- how to incorporate Restorative Yoga into a Hatha/Vinyasa Yoga practice or class
- practice teaching - you will lead a mini class
- learn the benefit of incorporating Hands on Healing (Reiki) into Restorative Yoga
- teaching restorative yoga privately, and trusting your intuition
- preparatory practices to enhance your restorative yoga practices
- Total of 26 Continuing Education Units
