Scaravelli Inspired Yoga Holiday
A week of Scaravelli Inspired Yoga, playing with sensations of gravity, freeing the breath and awakening the spine. This different way of working with the body leads to a different experience of your being. You will be encouraged to work attentively and deeply and to experience the wonderful freedom of a mind and body at play.
Type of Event
Sundays are travel days and there is a 'day off' on Thursday so participants can explore the countryside more and visit neighbouring towns or villages. Extra days can be booked at the accommodation if you want to either arrive early or stay on and sightsee.
The cost is €360 (or sterling equivalent) per person based on sharing a twin or double apartment. €480 euros single. Water, tea, coffee and breakfast ingredients are included. All yoga tuition, guided walks and Vision Walk included, treatments and transport not included.
We will be following the Scaravelli Inspired approach to yoga which includes discarding 'fixed' ideas of how yoga should look or be done. Vanda Scaravelli did not believe in 'forcing', 'pushing' or 'pulling' in your yoga practice but rather in finding a way to open with 'effortless ease'.This approach involves cultivating attentiveness, working with gravity and the breath to awaken the spine. In particular we will look at what it means to deepen your practice, to work fluidly and with 'effortless effort'.
Those with experience of yoga will find it a chance to explore how to enrich their yoga practice with many tips and techniques for increasing flexibility and working more deeply.
The group is small, maximum 8 people, with lots of hands on individual attention.
Beginners should find it accessible to every type of body, no matter age, shape, size or degree of flexibility. One of the myths about yoga is that you have to be flexible to do it. You don't. Flexibility is a by-product of yoga not a pre-condition to doing it. You learn to cultivate an awareness of what is limiting you and so how to use your body in a completely different, liberating, way. When you free the body in this way the mind, the heart and your whole sense of being also become freer.
Jimena de la Frontera is a 'white village' located in the province of Cadiz in southern Andalucia, Spain. It borders the Alcornocales Natural Park, an area the size of Cornwall, with a marvellous landscape of Cork trees, rocks, water and natural beauty. Most birds migrating to Africa pass overhead and the park is a paradise for hikers, wild plant lovers and bird watchers. The Hozgarganta, the cleanest river in Spain runs alongside the village and provides beautiful deep pools for swimming.
Jimena is a traditional and friendly village with bars and restaurants serving tasty tapas and delicious local dishes.
We will begin with a yoga practice in the morning.
After breakfast you'll be free to follow your own inclinations for the day. You may choose to:
* go for a hike in the Alcornacales Natural Park which borders the village. A few steps from the village and you will be in the park where there are amazing short and long distance hikes. You might just want to go as far as the 'platforms' that have been erected around the village to admire the views or stroll along the riverside, or you could, for example, hike to see the prehistoric cave paintings at Laja Alta. You can follow your own route or let us know if you would like a guided walk to explore the beauty of the natural habitat.
* go for a swim in the river
* laze at the poolside in Juzgada
* go horse riding
* with a car you can visit any of the other picturesque whitewashed villages in the area, and drive through stunning countryside
* I will be offering pampering Aromatherapy and Ayurvdic foot treatments in the afternoon
Early evening we will have another yoga session together focussing more on breathing and meditation.
For dinner you can choose from the many wonderful tapas bars and restaurants in the village for your evening meal. We usually go out as a group together but you are free to do what you choose and if you prefer you can use the communal kitchen to cater for yourself.
