What is Somatic Movement
Somatic movement integrates the science of neuromuscular retraining with body prayer consciousness though the breath. It is a gentle practice that is extremely adaptable. When we slow down and experience ourselves through movement and breath, we learn to self-regulate our nervous system. This practice is recommended to release long held muscle tension, decrease persistent pain, enhance athletic performance, improve balance and increase range of motion. It can also decrease inflammation and improve sleep. On the subtle level, it enhances energy and balances the flow of prana (life force energy) in the body.

Who Should Participate
No prior experience or training is required. This practice is for everybody, regardless of age or activity level. This 2 day course can personally empower you as the practitioner. It is also a functional practice for yoga teachers, body workers and health professional who want to be able to bring more independence, freedom of movement and awareness to their clients.

What You Will Learn
Learn self care skills to release chronic tightness, heighten awareness of muscle coordination and increase mental focus. You will be able to apply the principles of somatic movement to help with common musculoskeletal conditions. Basic anatomy will be included. Somatic movement can help reduce pain, heal trauma, increase vitality and mobility. Learn concepts such as pandiculation, red and green light reflex, proprioception, sensory motor amnesia, and how to work with perceptions of illness and pain. We will also explore myofascial release and how somatics can positively influence the subtle energy body.

Your Teacher
Megan MacCarthy is a Certified Yoga Therapist (C-IAYT) and E-RYT500, with the goal of empowering her students with practices that are accessible, joyful and successful. She is also a Healing Touch Certified Practitioner (HTCP), and Ayurvedic Marma Therapist who specializes in the subtle energy body. She has a regular somatics practice that is a one stop shop for body, mind and spirit and has been teaching weekly classes since 2010.
