ttClasses will be held every other Saturday and Sunday afternoon from January to June. 14 Hour weekends 13 Weekends. Our in-class work will be supported by reading, writing, class attendance, observation, home practice, study and karma yoga. Yoga is thousands of years old, it is an art form that is changing rapidly in the west, it is the responsibility of the yoga teacher to understand the history behind yoga. 8 limbs of Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras (list and describe), History of Yoga: Classical & Modern; evolution over time, 3 Main nadis, mudras, and bandhas, importance of pranayama, importance of seated meditation, importance of restorative yoga poses, yoga lineages and how they evolved over time, teaching methodology, Building ones life as a yoga teacher. Students will be asked to respond, in a journal, to questions that arise from lectures and readings. Students are responsible for understanding the following topics. Written, oral, and performance quizzes will be given periodically to assess student understanding.

The Principals of Shiva Shanti Yoga

Asana-Postures: Alignment of Asana (safe teaching techniques), Theory and Practice of Yoga, Sequencing Classes, Vinyasa Krama (teaching classes to flow safely Teaching Techniques (using props -blocks, belts and blankets), Teaching special populations (beginners, prenatal, etc., Standing Poses, Forward Bends, Backbends, Twists, Inversions and Standing Balances. Benefits and contraindications, Pronunciation of asanas in Sanskrit and English, Adjusting & Assisting Asana.
Sanskrit the Language of Yoga - Introduction to Sanskrit.
Pranayama – (Yogic Breathing): Theory and Practice, The Basics of Teaching Pranayama: Complete Yogic Breath/Relaxing Breath, Ujjayi-Victorious Breath, Nadi Sodhana-Alternate Nostril Breathing.
Energitics of Yoga: Chakras, Vayus, Bandhas, Koshas, Gunas and Nadis.
Dhyana – Meditation: Overview and theory of meditation techniques, teaching meditation, yoga nidra (deep awareness).
Yoga Philosophy and Lifestyle- Foundations of Yogic Thought: The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, The Bhagavad Gita, Ethics of Teaching Yoga, Introduction to the Vedas.
Anatomy and Physiology: The anatomical structure and systems of the body, joints, muscles, bones, applying anatomy to asana, principles of teaching a safe anatomically correct class.
Teaching Methodology: teaching drills, practice teaching sessions with extensive feedback from training director, comprehensive lectures and discussions covering all aspects of teaching yoga.

Tuition: Deposit $500 to hold your spot in the program one month before program begins.

Certification: To graduate you will be required to know basic knowledge of pranayama, mudras, bandhas, asanas, basic philosophy and anatomy. Graduates will be expected to know both the Sanskrit and Western names, benefits and contraindications of each asana. Graduates will be expected to give succinct directions for bringing students into and out of each asana, and know how to sequence asanas for a vinyasa flow, within the framework of a 60-90 minute class. Graduates will be expected to incorporate pranayama, mudras, and bandhas and philosophy in classes.

Refund: If you withdraw prior to the start of the Session, you will be refunded your deposit minus the registration fee of $ the start of the program there are no refunds. Tuition includes 180 classroom hours (for the full session), required reading materials are not included. Enrolled students are extended a 10% discount on all workshops and boutique purchases made At Shiva Shanti Yoga School during the duration of enrollment in the program. 2 Classes a week are included in your tuition and must be taken. Space is limited; a deposit is required to hold your space for a session. To reserve your place in the training you must submit your application with signed enrollment agreement along with your deposit of $500. There are no refunds once program begins.
