The fee for the programme is $100 CAD per week. The programme can be taken for one week or two.
Being a teenager in this changing world can often be challenging both at home and at school. Yoga offers a perfect path which can impact their development from adolescents into young adults in a very positive way by speaking to their natural sense of curiosity and expression. Yoga helps young people respect themselves and reach out to others in the spirit of service.
In this Programme Teens will:
-Learn yoga and meditation
-Develop many skills by being part of various ashram projects
-Learn how to develop mutually respectful working relationships
-Learn how to work with confidence and in the spirit of service
-Establish good rapport with their friends of diverse backgrounds
-Spend time in nature and enjoy outdoors
-Go for several outings together
-Have a fun summer holiday
Karma yoga , healthy lifestyle and friendships - a great combination:
The ashram schedule is perfectly structured to help develop healthy habits. Teens will learn the logic behind that schedule and the benefits of following it including, including keeping their minds focused and free from worries and distractions. Karma yoga encourages the experience of working for the benefit of community and the deep connections that are formed through such work. They will also be taught to give their all to the work at hand and feel the peace that comes from it, without worrying about the outcome.
Having lived and studied with Swami Vishnudevananda, Saraswati, a mother of two, is currently the co-director of the SYVC in Toronto. As a disciple of Swami Vishnudevananda, she lived and studied under his personal guidance for many years, and has over twenty years’ experience teaching yoga and meditation to yogis of all ages. She is a certified Child and Youth Worker, and has also developed many family- and community-based programs, such as Family Yoga Weeks, Kids Yoga School, and Yogic Parenting, and has worked enthusiastically with individuals and groups on social issues such as anger management, conflict resolution, mental health, and substance abuse.
-7.00am: Wake up
-7.30am: Staff meeting with the Ashram
-8.00-10.00am: Yoga Class
-10.00am: Brunch (vegetarian meal)
-11.00am – 3.30pm: Karma Yoga (selfless service)
-4.00pm-5.00pm: Teen Meeting( Group meeting with seniors ashram staff during which various aspects of yoga, ashram life, and group concerns are discussed. Meetings are an opportunity for teens to express their views, give and receive feedback, and resolve practical matters)
-5.00-6.00pm: Rest and Showers
-6.00pm: Dinner (vegetarian meal)
-8.00pm: Satsang (meditation, chanting, talk)
-10.00pm: lights out
Examples of Karma Yoga:
Karma yoga: kitchen time assisting in meal making, caring for the beautiful ashram gardens, sprucing up with some painting and general maintenance, greeting and assisting ashram guests at the reception desk, preparing yummy snacks for the health hut and keeping the boutique organized. Teens will be supervised by staff.
And just like any summer vacation time should have: beach trips, hiking, canoeing, visits to other beautiful Laurentian area sites weekly and maybe a surprise excursion too!
