Workshop by Corien Unger at Smiling Buddha Yoga Studio Bonaire.
Sitting is a practice that is big part of yoga: we sit in forward bending, twisting, pranayama and meditation. In our daily life we also sit a lot. Usually on a chair, mostly unaware of our posture and quite often very tense. Especially at a desk/table and even more at the computer we tend to slouch - hence the phrase 'computer slump'. Many stress and tension symptoms in our upper back, neck and shoulders can be traced back to this. Both on and off the mat, active, well-aligned sitting can give us a relaxed yet attentive state of body and mind.
How do we get there? That's what we will explore by working on hip flexibility and core strength, awakening the spine and opening the upper back and shoulders. We will also practice in groups of 2 or 3 persons helping each other to find alignment.
The Art of Sitting will involve a variety of exercises to create space and reduce tension. They can be helpful in your sitting daily life as in yoga.
