Getting Back to the Basics – The Fundamentals of Yoga Workshop Series

This workshop series will remind you and educate you about the fundamentals of Yoga not only as a form of fitness for the body, but also as a philosophy and technique that enriches daily life.

It is designed to refresh your existing yoga practice or start you down the yoga path if you are a beginner. You will come away with real, useful techniques that you can put into action every day.

Each workshop will include discussion, demonstration, adjustments and movement. You may take any one workshop separately, but it is recommended that you attend the series as each will build on the other.

Workshop 1 – The History and Philosophy of Yoga
This workshop will introduce the ancient wisdom and teachings of the philosophy of Yoga. We will briefly look at the ancient yoga texts and relate these teachings to our modern busy lives. As we begin to move, we will examine how this wisdom plays out on the mat and in our daily tasks.

Workshop 2 – Asana
This workshop will look at some of the basic and fundamental postures of Yoga and will focus on alignment, modifications and physical benefits.

Workshop 3 – Pranayama (Breath work) and Meditation
This workshop will cover the basic Yoga breathing and will guide you to tune in to the subtle energies of the body. It will also offer several approaches for entering Meditation. We will discuss the “puppy mind” and contest some of the common misconceptions and frustrations about meditation.

Workshop 4 – Yoga for your Everyday Needs.
This workshop will look at a variety of common health challenges and explore how Yoga can work to reduce symptoms and/or manage symptoms to improve life function and reduce suffering.

This workshop series is for you if:
• You are a beginner at Yoga and want to learn more .
• If you have an interest or curiosity about Yoga and what it’s all about, but think that you can’t practice it because of lack of flexibility, injury or body type.
• If you are a fitness instructor of any sort and want to incorporate yoga and yoga philosophy into your workout routines to enhance wellness and the mind, body connection.
