The Hips Don’t Lie: 360° Opening To Rock Your World!
A 2-hour session to develop stability and flexibility of the joints, muscles, tendons and ligaments of the hip. Develop approaches which can be used both on and off your yoga mat.
Type of Event
When we think about “hip openers” in the context of yoga, we generally think about how tight our own hips are and generally jump to the conclusion that because we’re inflexible, there’s no point going there or at best, we endure the discomfort, but can’t wait to get out of the posture as quickly as possible.
It’s a great shame, because in addition to being the gateway to many of the “fun” postures found in dynamic forms of yoga, having pliable, but stable hip joints provides a foundation for the rest of the body. If the muscles, ligaments, tendons and mysofascial tissue surrounding the pelvis are tight, they also has a knock-on effect on the lower and mid-back and will often cause a load misplacement that ends up causing shoulder and neck problems as well, not to mention digestive problems!
This 2-hour workshop will be an exploration of the range of movement possible via the hip and will allow each of us to uncover our strengths and limitations in moving through the joint. We’ll explore everything from simple openers that act as maintenance, through “developers” that can be practiced off the mat and onto the modifications and building blocks that with patience, will eventually take us to those aforementioned seemingly impossible postures, as well as give as more structural stability throughout the body.
You don’t need to be super-flexible (obviously) – just possess a willingness to play with your body and become acquainted with your hips!
