With instructors Dr. Deborah Norris, Lauren Richardson and Jessie Norris of The Mindfulness Center, you will deeply explore the foundations of Hatha and Vinyasa yoga as well as the scientific basis and modern research behind the therapeutic benefits of yoga and meditation.
The Mindfulness Center is dedicated to promoting healthcare systems which empower our natural healing abilities, honor the power of mindfulness and embrace optimal well being. The practice of yoga provides such a system.
The goal of The Mindfulness Center Yoga Teacher Training is to impart a comprehensive understanding of the therapeutic benefits of this healing lifestyle practice and to foster teachers and yogis who are empowered to share this remarkable practice.
Students will explore the foundations of hatha and vinyasa yoga as well as the scientific basis and modern research behind the therapeutic benefits of asana, pranayama and meditation.
Asana: Learn the physical and energetic alignment of the postures, their therapeutic benefits and how to teach them for all experience levels.
Pranayama: Explore the various yogic breathing techniques and how to apply them.
Meditation: Introduction to teaching meditation and various styles.
Easy-to-attend weekend schedule. Modules may be taken separately for CEUs or non-teacher trainees.
About the Faculty-
Deborah Norris, , ERYT 200, is the Founder and Executive Director of The Mindfulness Center, Adjunct Professor of Psychology at American University and a health scientist with over 30 years of experience in education and research. Debbie’s love and appreciation for the healing power of movement began with her experiences in dance, including apprenticing with the New York City Ballet. After a debilitating injury Debbie found healing through yoga and went on to study in the Iyengar and hatha traditions. Her training includes study with the Washington Center for Consciousness Studies and the American College of Sports Medicine.
Lauren Richardson, ERYT 200, Lauren discovered yoga over ten years ago as a way to balance her athletic pursuits. After practicing a variety of styles, she trained with Jonny Kest becoming a Registered Yoga Teacher in 2005. She teaches a dynamic series of sequenced postures that flow together to promote mobility and healing. Lauren enjoys inspiring students to use their breath for personal awareness and stress reduction as well as for strength and flexibility training. Lauren believes that yoga provides an opportunity to practice the delicate balance of effort and ease.
Jessie Norris, ERYT 200 is Co-Founder and Creative Director of The Mindfulness Center (TMC) as well as a yoga and meditation instructor. For almost a decade Jessie has studied the therapeutic applications of a number of yoga and meditation traditions, including studies with the YogaHOPE organization and the Washington Center for Consciousness Studies. Jessie recognizes the ability of yoga and meditation to balance and enhance all aspects of our lives and to cultivate optimal wellness of mind, body and spirit.
