This three hour practical workshop is designed for those who want to understand the basics of pranayama (breath control) and learn to breathe effectively. You will practise simple techniques to supercharge your health and create positive effects on all the systems of the body.

The heart of any hatha yoga practice is pranayama, breathing techniques that consciously control the flow of prana, vital energy in the body. Through proper breathing you will create an efficient respiratory system, regulate your emotions and stabilise the mind. Efficient breathing can help reduce stress, anxiety and improve respiratory problems such as asthma.

The very basis of pranayama is vibhaga pranayama, sectional breathing. Together with a whole set of body postures and activities called Hathenas (forcing techniques), you will cleanse, strengthen and increase the elasticity of the lungs, diaphragm and intercostal muscles to create positive and powerful breathing patterns. The Hathenas are unique to the Gitananda Yoga tradition and are not taught elsewhere.
