The Yoga Sutras of Asana

Bhagavan Patanjali has devoted only three sutras to asana (the physical poses) in The Yoga Sutras. In this workshop we will define asana and explore what it means to let go of active effort while performing or holding postures. We will learn to chant these sutras in Sanskrit, then we will discuss how to bring an effortlessness quality to our practice, and we will apply and practice asana as Patanjali suggests.

Full Description

Out of 195 sutras in the Yoga Sutras, the Bible of Yoga, Bhagavan Patanjali has devoted only three sutras to asana (the physical poses). In this workshop we will define asana and explore what it means to let go of active effort while performing or holding postures. First, we will learn to chant these sutras in Sanskrit, then we will discuss how to bring an effortlessness quality to our practice, and lastly, we will apply and practice asana as Patanjali suggests as a way of developing a sattvic state of mind.
