Full Description

The Trauma Informed Mind Body (TIMBo) program is aimed at people from all walks of life who would benefit from gaining skills and tools to enhance their emotional and physical well-being, and to more skillfully regulate their coping responses to stimuli and stress. This program, developed by yogaHOPE, has been successful in a variety of settings, including women’s prisons, shelter programs, and private group settings. In addition to programs running throughout the United States, Suzanne Jones (the founder of yogaHOPE and creator of the TIMBo program), and her team have taken the program to Haiti, Africa, and Afghanistan, serving many women as participants, and certifying some of those same participants to become TIMBo facilitators to carry the program forward and grow the global reach of its healing power.

TIMBo runs for sixteen intact group sessions. The sessions combines simple yoga-like movements, relaxation breathing, guided meditation, and a workbook-based approach to explore and better understand the impact of emotions such as fear, guilt, shame, and grief. Facilitators have all been through the program themselves and have 100 hours of facilitation certification training. The facilitation style of a TIMBo program is non-hierarchical and approachable, which has proven very effective with women showing signs of chronic stress and manifestations of past trauma. Participants begin using self-regulation and mindfulness tools after the very first class and their sense of empowerment is often felt right away. Each session builds on the previous one, allowing participants the opportunity to practice using new skills and tools. Group discussion provides space for participants to share their discoveries and validate one another in making empowering choices.
