Twists penetrate deep into the body’s core, offering potent benefits to the muscles and organs of the torso while encouraging the breath to grow deep and full. Practicing these postures regularly can create a suppleness and freedom in your spine that in turn brings a spring to your step!

*Why twist?
Twisting helps maintain the spine’s range of motion. It also offers us a way to release tension that may be stored in the body. As we twist and turn, there’s a chance to un-tie rigidity in our musculature and connective tissue, which often translates to a feeling of softening and spaciousness in the body as well as the mind.
*Bhandas, How they relate to twists.
Breathing correctly in twists can make the twist more powerful as well as more easeful , we will learn how bhandas (the bodies hydraulic system) work together to “root” and “lock” using the whole torso to make twisting more powerful.
*Tips for intensifying your twists.
Enjoy a 75 minute asana practice focusing on proper breathing and alignment with fun transitions, orientations and powerful hands on assists.

Bonnie Finneran is a RYT500 and on staff with Yoga Teacher Training with Laurel Hodory and Faculty. Her focus on aging productively and proper alignment empower people of all ages. Intelligent sequencing allows her students to deepen their personal practice and find a new felt appreciation of who they are today no matter their stage in life!
