Vancouver-based Ashtanga Vinyasa teacher Geoff Mackenzie is a firm believer in the highly adaptable and therapeutic nature of yoga practice. As such, he always places the needs of each individual student first and foremost.
Breath/mind/body awareness, effective vinyasa methodology and hands-on assistance in key postures are all foundational components of his classes.
Students can expect Geoff's morning sessions to be a playful, dynamic, yet deep exploration of the fundamental yoga asanas: utilizing simple, adaptable postures, particular breathing techniques and subtle, internal energetic connections, each student can discover lightness, strength, poise and focus, regardless of previous experience.
Gentler-paced afternoon sessions often include detailed and practical insights into technique, but draw most inspiration from the quieter side of practice, creating focused, calm states where equilibrium can be restored and awareness cultivated.
Geoff began yoga practice as a curious surfer living in Bali in 1998, simply seeking to improve his breathing, agility and mental focus. Suffice to say he found all that and much more: the 'more' including the deep desire to share the benefits of practice with all who care to give it a try. Upon completing a teacher training course in 2004, Geoff began conducting daily classes in Victoria and then Vancouver, Canada. In 2006 he took his first trip to India, to study at the Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, where he now returns every year for extended periods.
Geoff is Authorized at Level 2 by his teacher, (KPJAYI Director) Sharath Jois, to teach the Primary and Intermediate series of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. Since 2010 he has been quite nomadic, teaching extensively in North America, Europe and Asia, sharing yoga practice with people of all ages, abilities and walks of life.
