Full Description

Giel is one of Belgium's top Vinyasa teachers and is based in Ghent where he teaches regular classes and one-on-ones.

Years ago, Giel found out that yoga could bring peace and structure into his rather chaotic and hectic life, through meditation and consistent asana practice.

It was the joyous enthusiasm of Johan De Backer that made Giel decide to immerse himself in yoga philosophy and asana study. Johan enabled him to become profoundly aware of the power of deep meditation during his 5 years teacher training at the Institute for Patanjala Yoga where the Yogasutra of Patanjali and the Himalaya Yoga tradition were the core teachings. The emphasis on the spiritual and meditative essence of yoga was the solid foundation for the further evolution of Giel's own practice.

Giel completed his training in the spirit of the Himalaya masters by taking the courses of Yogacharya Lalit Kumar, direct student of Swami Vedhabarathi, grand master in the Himalaya Yoga tradition (RYT500). Lalit refined Giel's techniques and performance by focusing on the alignment in the Iyengar tradition.

The fluent dynamic movements of Ashtanga-Vinyasa Yoga, based on the original traditions of both masters, make his courses soft in building up, intense in performance, deep in breathing and joyously uplifting.

Giel has since been teaching yoga at Yoga-On-Call in Ghent, Belgium, and in other retreats around the world. He also offers one-on-one classes with a very personal approach via 37° Yoga, his own organisation, adapting yoga to personal needs and possibilities, adjusting meditation and asanas.

In Ulpotha, Giel will be offering a fun dynamic class in the morning, adapted to all levels, and a more relaxing class in the afternoons to welcome in the evening.
