Unleash Your Inner Creativity Retreat
The theme for the week is creativity but it’s not just for the arty types! Your Teacher: Emma Corkery
I first started practicing yoga in 2004 and was initially attracted to the physical health benefits and the inner space created through meditation. My interest in both yoga and meditation grew steadily from that point on and really started to flourish when I was studying for my degree. This was probably the busiest time of my life so far juggling studying, working and becoming a mother but all the time I kept up a dedicated practice and felt grounded, ready and full of energy. I love that these practices change with us presenting new opportunities for growth when we are ready for them. In 2010 I started teaching children’s yoga and working with new parents and their babies. I found this so fulfilling and a lot of fun! It inspired me to train as a school teacher and share my other passions for art and creativity. I completed my 200 hour Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow yoga training in India and now enjoy spending my time creating fun and accessible classes for a wide range of ages and abilities. My style of teaching is gentle and fun, I love to teach wearing a smile and encourage everyone to enjoy the process without grasping at the result. I love helping people find space, access their creativity and most of all have fun with yoga.
Styles of yoga to be taught:
I teach Ashtanga and Vinyasa flow classes that are both naturally dynamic and energetic but also build a strong sense of connection between body and mind by linking each movement to the breath. Vinyasa means breath synchronized movement. These styles were designed to embody the benefits of an extensive yoga and meditation practice in a relatively short period of time so that people with busy lives could fit in a consistent and meaningful daily practice that is good for both physical and mental wellbeing. In the Ashtanga sessions I will lead you through a set sequence that is a modified version of the Ashtanga Primary series. Due to it’s repetition of movement, I see Ashtanga as a beautiful moving meditation and design my Vinyasa flow classes in a more creative way using music to enhance the mood and feel of the class experience. On the retreat you will get to experience both of these styles in our morning sessions and a more restorative Yin yoga approach in the evening. In a restorative class poses are held for longer periods of time often supported so the body and mind can totally relax.

The theme for the week is creativity but it’s not just for the arty types! I believe that we can all experience the joy that comes from creating and the way to get there is to remove our judgments, preconceptions and connect back to that part of ourselves that decides to do things just because they are fun. Each day will begin with a dynamic yoga class of either Ashtanga or Vinyasa flow styles. The physical yoga practice will help you to move with freedom and ease and the meditation sessions will enable you to see where your mental blocks are holding you back. This is achieved through analytical meditations that foster contemplations on love and compassion for others and ourselves. Daily workshops will include a session on how to access and develop core strength, how meditation benefits our modern lives and learning how to deeply relax using Yoga Nidra and guided imagery. There will be an actual making workshop where you will have the opportunity to respond to the beautiful surroundings and capture its essence in your own way. I will introduce you to mandala making which is a wonderfully meditative practice in itself.
Your workshop programme:
Love and compassion meditation
I have been studying Tibetan Buddhist meditation over the past 10 years and will be sharing a meditation workshop focused on developing compassion. This will involve an initial guided breathing meditation, a teaching about developing this mind and then a guided meditation to access and hold the mind of compassion so that we can bring into our everyday lives. Finding compassion for yourself and others is the first step to feeling more open in your heart and will enable you to move into the retreat with a relaxed and happy mind.
I am a qualified Art teacher and love all things crafty so I will be providing the opportunity for you to create mandala images using art materials but also the wonderful natural environment of the retreat. Mandala means circle in Sanskrit and represents the universe. There are many beautiful examples of mandalas that I will share with you as inspiration for your own unique creations. The process involves repetition of shape and pattern and references the meditative qualities that you will experience from repetition in your physical yoga practice. This workshop will connect you closer to the nature around you as you look for the patterns, shapes, textures and visual elements that are easy to miss in our busy everyday activities.
Core strength and confidence
Finding and learning how to access your core strength can be a real turning point in your yoga practice, helping you to float, fly and balance with ease. I will be running a workshop that builds confidence and core stability leading towards some fun arm balances. Confidence and a willingness to try is the real key here and you will be feeling more ready to accept new challenges everyday with all of our work on building awareness, intuition and creativity.
Yoga Nidra and guided imagery
Yoga Nidra is also known as the yogic sleep and is a wonderfully restorative practice where you will feel totally rested like you have just had the best nights sleep without actually sleeping! I love using this type of meditation in conjunction with Yin style classes. I will introduce you to the practice of Yoga Nidra and include some explanation and guided imagery techniques to encourage you to access your creativity and intuition. By this point in the retreat you will find that accessing new ideas and inspiration is becoming easier and easier. What a great way to end!
