Yin Yoga is a wonderful complement to a dynamic, muscular Yang-style of yoga. It's a beautiful meditative style of static yoga stemming from Taoism. The essence of Yin is really to surrender and relax into the posture in stillness, holding each posture anywhere from 1-5 minutes. Moving away from the muscles and working more into the deep connective tissues - fascia, ligaments, tendon and organs. By holding poses longer in a relaxed state, we coax these "yin tissues" into being strengthened and we create flexibility and improve ROM (range of motion) within the joints and deep connective tissues within the body, helping to prevent Arthritis and Osteoporosis.
