Full Description

Yin yoga is based on the Taoist concept of Yin and Yang, which are defined as opposite but complementary interdependent forces in the natural world. Yin is the stable, unmoving, hidden aspect of things, the negative, passive, female principle in nature; Yang is the changing, moving, revealing aspect, positive, active, male principle in nature.

Yin yoga is a subtle and profound practice in which passive floor-based poses (that mainly work the lower body) are held for several minutes whilst bringing awareness to the breath and presence of mind. These long holds will open thicker layers of connective tissues (tendons, ligaments, fascia) around the joints, unravelling areas of tension. Deeper access to the ligaments, bones and joints cultivates outer flexibility and mobility, increases circulation, balances the internal organs and stimulates the energetic flow of the subtle body. Yin offers a much deeper access to the body.

Led by Filipa Alvarez, this workshop will create the space to slow down and stay with one’s own experiences which increases inner awareness, stillness and calmness as we ease into the poses. The stillness leads us to a deeper sense of balance, calm, acceptance and equanimity, counteracting the many negative aspects of our often stress-filled and hectic lives.

Yin Yoga is beneficial and suitable for all levels of practitioner.
