Trishna and Chantal, mother and daughter, share an enthusiasm for study of the origins of dance, song, and traditional practices. We are so happy to be offering this retreat at Sierra Hot Springs. We look forward to sharing yoga, dance, and community in this beautiful high mountain valley.

We have chosen the quieter midweek time in these last days of Spring for this retreat.

Tuesday June 17
12:00 noon: arrive Sierra Hot Springs. Store food stuff in the kitchen, set up camp, or get settled in your room. Rest or have a soak.
3:30-5:00 Yoga with Trishna
5:15-6:30 Dance with Chantal
6:45 Dinner
8:30 Video presentation of elemental feminine dance.
Wednesday June 18
8:30-10:30 Yoga with Trishna
10:30-4:00 Open time. enjoy the surrounding nature! soak, hike, rest, receive bodywork….
4:30-5:00 Discuss the roots of Belly Dance
5:00-6:30 Dance with Chantal
6:45 Dinner
8:30-9:30 . Green room open for dance and movement.
Thursday June 19
8:00-9:30 Yoga with Trishna
9:45-10:45 Dance with Chantal
11:00-11:30 Mantra and Meditation.

Full Description

Being Yoga: A Hatha Flow practice with emphasis on breath and awareness. Dynamic Vinyasa built around the Classical Sun Salutations, and for this retreat, the Moon Salutations as well. Asana (held poses) are offered with gradations of challenge. Pranayama, mantra, meditation, and philosophy are woven into this practice. With particular attention to the Elemental Feminine, we will experience mythologies and teaching stories as reflective of our own qualities.
Belly dance originated as a family dance, a way to celebrate and honor the occasions of weddings, births, and life. Men, women, and children of North Africa and the Near and Middle East traditionally dance for each other and for fun. Some Belly Dance movement is a unique yoga for women in that it develops the muscles needed for childbirth. It is also a detailed and stylized performance art. In Chantal’s classes we will practice footwork and learn rhythms as well as cover isolations, fluid arm work, shimmies and spins. Through dance we will celebrate the grace and strength of the Feminine.
