Full Description

Set in the beautiful Andalucian countryside with panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada, and in an area of outstanding national beauty and ecological diversity, this retreat offers a complete getaway from everyday life.

You can expect a warm welcome from your hosts at La Hacienda, Tracie, and from your yoga teacher, Sue Fryer. The week promises a relaxing break with twice daily yoga classes which are held in the outdoor yoga space or in the indoor yoga studio. There will be time for quiet contemplation in the meditation temple or in the beautiful grounds as well as time to get to know like-minded people.

There is also free time each day to explore the local area, visit the nearby town of Montefrio* (which is a fifteen minute taxi ride away), relax at our beautiful villa by the pool, watch the sunset, stargaze… the choice is yours. We also organise a day trip to Granada* in the middle of the retreat for those who would like to explore the city or visit the stunning Alhambra Palace (pre-booking advised). Our retreats at The Hacienda have been featured in Om Yoga, Ultra Fit and Cardiff Life Magazine.

Food
All food is fresh, vegetarian and plentiful. All food is made by our local Spanish cook Mariajose and locally sourced where possible. We often have freshly picked figs, almonds, olives and fruit to enjoy, plus a freshly baked cake each day.

Please note: Most food allergies or intolerances can be catered for but please notify us beforehand as this may incur an extra cost. We have one large brunch per day and a large dinner after our evening class. Snacks, light bites and refreshments are available all day. Rest assured that you will not go hungry.

Schedule
There are a number of classes included in your stay with us, all of which are optional. Classes are suitable for all levels including beginners.
Our 8.30pm session will run every other night. Schedules can be subject to change but a typical day will include the following (Please note our two main meals are large meals and there is fruit, yoghurt and snacks offered all day).
7.30-8.15am Meditation and Pranayama
8.30-10am Dynamic Yoga Class
10.30am Brunch
5.30-7pm Hatha Yoga including Restorative Yoga and Relaxation.
7.30pm Dinner
Please note: We have two large main meals a day and refreshments and light bites are available all day.

About the classes
The yoga classes are a combination of energising Dynamic Yoga in the morning followed by a more restorative practice of Hatha and Restorative Yoga in later in the day. Classes are suitable for all levels and those with little or no experience in yoga are also very welcome. We are also happy to adapt classes for those with injuries or conditions. Please let us know beforehand so we can plan accordingly. Yoga mats, blocks, straps and bolsters are supplied by The Hacienda.

Morning Meditation Classes
Meditation is a way of exploring the inner self and can also be used to cope with stress and encourage deep relax. It helps to slow the mind and balance the emotions. It can also assist in problem solving, take us to higher states of awareness, peace and clarity. Sometimes through meditation we can experience visions or feelings of bliss, vitality and an increased sensory awareness. Sue Fryer has studied meditation in India and will lead Meditation sessions every morning just after sunrise.

Dynamic Yoga
Morning classes will be an energising blend of Salutes to the Sun, standing postures, twists and supported back-bends. The class will be flowing and invigorating with the aim of generating heat and strength within the body whilst increasing flexibility. Each posture will be explained to cater for beginners in the group.

Hatha and Restorative Yoga
When used together gentle Hatha Yoga and Restorative Yoga have a wonderfully relaxing effect on the body, mind and nervous system. Hatha Yoga aims to relax and lengthen the muscles and can ease aching joints, especially the lower back, which in turn helps to bring balance to your body. Restorative Yoga is a form of deep relaxation using certain yoga postures and yoga props such as bolsters to support the body. This in turn encourages deep relaxation and restful sleep, so you will feel refreshed and renewed both mentally and physically.

Please note: You are very welcome pick and choose which classes you do and there is no pressure to participate in all the sessions.
