Yoga for Change and Fulfilling Potential

Many of us start the New Year setting a resolution which we then struggle to keep. Yoga can help us to set goals which reflect our deepest values and stay on track to reach our potential. This workshop will feature breathing exercises, meditation, Hatha Flow asana practice and yoga nidra. We will also explore the stories and mantra of Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, whilst enjoying a tea break.

Full Description

Rebecca will show how we can draw upon yoga philosophy and practice to help guide us in setting and fulfilling our intention. In yoga a resolve, or intention, is known as 'sankalpa'. It’s a far deeper reflection of who we are and our life purpose than the usual New Year resolutions of losing weight or getting a new job. We start with an understanding that we already have all we need to achieve our goal. We can learn to focus the mind, connect with our deepest desires and values, and channel our internal energy to reach our potential.

In this workshop we’ll begin with breathing techniques and quiet sitting as an opportunity to explore your inner voice. This may bring forth a statement or resolve of your own, or you’ll be invited to choose from some suggestions. We’ll then set that intention at the start of our asana practice.

In order to break old habits, and set new grooves along which to travel we need to stoke that fire of intention. We’ll use a warming Hatha Flow practice to detoxify the body and mind. After a short tea break we’ll explore stories about the Hindu god Ganesha, the remover of obstacles, and you’ll be invited to use a simple mantra in meditation. This practice may help you clear the path towards your goal. We’ll finish with a period of yoga nidra, a deep guided relaxation with visualisations to refresh body and mind.

Chairs will be available for those who find sitting meditation uncomfortable. The practices are suitable for all levels of yoga experience

The practices are accessible to all abilities, and all levels of fitness or stiffness. Light refreshments are provided during the break.
