Yoga for Neck and Shoulders
This workshop will provide practices for relieving pain in neck and shoulders. It will include practices to stretch and strengthen, and help you unravel your postural patterns that may be contributing to pain.
Type of Event
While you may or may not carry the weight of the world on your shoulders, you definitely carry the weight of your head. Holding the head in a forward position is a big contributor to neck and shoulder pain. Improper alignment when lifting and carrying can also cause strain in the shoulders and tearing in the rotator cuff ligaments and labrum. Limited range of motion from frozen shoulder or other causes can also make daily activities of living such as brushing your hair or reaching for something up on a shelf difficult and painful .
“I have personal experience with shoulder pain. I had bone spurs in both shoulders which over time caused rotator cuff tears. Both shoulders were surgically repaired (2 years apart) and the rehab was long and painful, but informative. The good news is I am again able to do many (but not all) postures that require strength and range of motions. Part of the process of healing is recognizing what serves you and what doesn’t.
