Hiking is great for the heart and lungs but on it's own can create tight leg muscles. By adding lengthening yoga stretches, you'll loosen your hamstrings, build strength, improve your breathing and mobility. Yoga and hiking means one fills the gaps left by the other and your fitness gets a real boost!

Full Description

Set in the coastal town of Altea, an hour north of Alicante - airport transfers available - ask before booking flights.

This 5 night/6 day retreat is based at a renovated old Olive farm now a 4-star country house hotel with peaceful views . The hotel lies in a fabulous location being at the very point where the countryside meets the edge of town, so we have peace & tranquility and yet, you're an easy 10 minutes walk to the white washed 'old town' of Altea - considered to be one of the prettiest in this area - and 25mins walk to the beach.

The hotel has an outdoor pool & sunbathing deck in a quiet garden, an indoor yoga space & outdoor yoga terrace, sauna, bar, small gym. Plus a Michelin listed restaurant that creates delicious vegetarian & fish dishes for us whilst Vincenta - the hotel owner - brings us fresh eggs from her hens and cooks a delicious breakfast cake for us every day - yum!

The 20 en-suite rooms are spacious and superbly equipped with double or twin beds, individually controlled air-conditioning, mini-bar, TV, hairdryer, WiFi and some come with small balcony. Solo travelers are not asked - nor expected - to share their room with others so all rooms are available for single use.

The Yoga

The daily yoga sessions are designed to complement your hikes combining the deep stretches of Hatha with the warming flow of Vinyasa and some deeply restorative and relaxing Yin Yoga. Morning yoga sessions will focus on simple flowing sequences to stretch muscles and open joints whilst synchronising breath with movement to allow your practice to become like a calming moving meditation. Evening classes will be more restorative where we will hold postures a little longer using the breath to move deeper within, helping you re-connect with your inner peace. Bliss!

The level is suitable for keen beginners, those with a lapsed practice & intermediate yogis. Our teaching style is precise but relaxed. There's no pressure to create perfect yoga postures, what's more important to us is that you pay attention to how the yoga 'feels' in your body. Likewise there's no room for ego as it's not what we're about. It doesn't matter what other people are doing around you, just work with what you have. Be patient, keep practicing and your body will open up & let you back in.

The Hikes

Our first hike is an easy guided walk through the quiet countryside and lanes near the hotel passing orange, lemon, olive and avocado groves. A great opportunity to stretch your legs, get to know everyone and feel more familiar in your new 'home'.

Our second hike is in the stunning mountains near the hotel. You'll be walking along an undulating route passing a Buddhist community living in a beautiful hidden valley known locally as "Valley of the Buddhas". This walk of around 4 - 5 hours and includes a picnic lunch in the mountains whilst you 'drink' the big open sky views and peace.

You'll also have chance to do a 3rd self guided coastal hike from the hotel along the seafront using our maps & locals advice. All walks are optional & open to everyone.

In addition to daily yoga & hikes, this holiday also offers a range of optional activities you can do if you wish. We have Guided Biking, Horse Trekking, Spanish Cookery workshop & lunch and a lovely range of holistic pampering therapies all optional activities are reasonably priced from €30.00.

The Food!
An important part of your holiday, because we all like our belly's to be happy too! Each day begins with a 'mini-breakfast' of fresh fruits & herbal teas to help you awaken, then, after morning yoga we dine on a healthy buffet breakfast spread - cereals, fruits, yogurts, hams, cheeses, fresh eggs, cakes, pastries, toasts, honey & teas - followed, at the end of the day, with 3-course vegetarian suppers at the hotel - fish will be offered some nights too. Two eves will be free for guests to explore the delicious local dining options and, on one of these free nights, we'll organise a meal at a local restaurant which you can join if you wish.
